We had the good fortune of connecting with Gaby Paul and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gaby, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my career has taught me, is to stay authentic to who I am. You would be surprised at how many people might resonate with your sound, image and creativity if you take a shot at just being yourself. Growing up, I was always told how unique my voice and style was. Over the years, I have trained and owned my craft to the point where nothing is ever fabricated or artificial. I’ve found that more people like my work, than those who may dislike it. A lot of people can see through superficiality. Be honest and open about your experiences, hardships and where you come from. Authenticity is remaining raw and true to who you are. Being authentic has benefited me in the long run when it comes to my music and aesthetics.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to write and sing bluesy songs about relationships, independence and my hardships/obstacles. I’m most excited about changing up my sound and experimenting with Lo-Fi beats, delicate vocals and sultry lyrics. I got to where I am by taking chances, networking and being vulnerable on the internet. It wasn’t easy but it was worth it because this is my life’s purpose. I want people to know that I am nowhere near perfect. I am not yet brave enough to write journal entries about my personal struggles on social media. I use my inner battles as inspiration for my work in order to deliver a message and help others. Reading between the lines is essential.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love visiting Tom’s Thumb for beautiful hiking trails in the wide open desert. The mountain scenery in McDowell Sonoran Preserve is supreme. My favorite spots in Arizona for food is El Encanto, Charlie’s and LoLo’s Chicken & Waffles. I’m a lover of Mexican and good ol’ southern soul food.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My best friend Paige Howell from Radical West! Her Instagram (@radical_west) showcases her passion for the Arizona desert and all of the American Southwest. I get inspiration from our enigmatic and liberating road trips. We feel most alive cruising through The Wild Wild West.
