We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Irwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
I want to have more than just a title for my career. I want my career to be an experience of many titles that create who I am. For example not just a photographer but a writer, a teacher, an artist…an entrepreneur ideally that is what it is called that I want to achieve but you really don’t know what that will look like when you begin your journey.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My artistic skills revolve around photography but I have so much creativity that stories are already brewing when I snap the photo. My photography is a stepping stone to see the world differently and when I’m doing it, my mind runs wild with stories to tell the world. I got where I am today with a lot of sweat, blood and tears. It wasn’t easy but doing what you love never comes easy. Easy is that 9-5, working for someone; who has a dream. I wanted my own dreams and I knew I wasn’t going to get it the easy way. Challenges never stop coming, you just get better at handling them through trial, error and age. It is also good to have a good support system but some lessons I have learned along the way have more to do with self than business. Business is hard to learn and be successful at. I am proud that I have made it this far and it really isn’t as scary as it looked when I first started. I will have to say though learning about myself was the only way to find out what I really wanted out of this journey. We have these perceptions as children because of how we were raised or who we were around and when we become adults we don’t realize that we have to let go of these things in order to become our true authentic selves. Sometimes people/things/places will not be able to follow us. My photos portray the magic and love from within and my brand is the connection of nature and animals from the eyes of our soul. I believe we are all meant to shine in a world we fear and I want you to know you’re not alone.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am an introvert at heart but I love to go to the Gilbert Farmers Markets on Saturdays. Taking a nature walk is always a favorite especially for photography so I enjoy the Superstition mountains, Usery Park, and McDowell mountains. Some of my favorite places to eat are Barrio Queen, Big Mike’s Breakfast, and any sushi restaurant.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
