We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Montasir and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
Being honest and transparent with my daughter is one of the most important ways I hope to make a positive impact on her life. I try to do this in all aspects of my life but this year it has been an emphasis on my work life. Growing up, I didn’t know much about what my parents did at work every day. I saw how hard they worked, and that instilled a strong work ethic in me. However, what I didn’t see were the ups and downs, the wins and setbacks they faced. This gave me the impression that hard work alone leads to success, and that your job will always be fulfilling if you just work hard enough.

Over the past 20 years in business, I’ve learned that’s not always the case. Both business and life are full of highs and lows. I want my daughter to understand that no matter what challenges come her way, she has the strength to persevere. I want her to know that even when things get tough, staying true to her authentic self is the key to navigating any situation. Hard work does pay off, but it’s essential to check in with ourselves to ensure that our work doesn’t overshadow who we are. I always remind her: trust your gut, do what you love, and never forget that I’m always in your corner.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a professional photographer for almost 20 years. The industry is constantly changing and it can seem like there is something new everyday. It can be overwhelming to keep up with, but when you step back and look at it you realize that it’s not about keeping up with trends. It’s about doing what I love and producing individual art work, customized to each client, not customized to a trend.
I always strive to stay classic and current at the same time. I love being able to walk into clients homes and see photographs of their children I have taken over the years. These images of who their family is can be enjoyed today and for generations to come. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to give people this lasting gift.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Arizona is bursting with exciting activities, making it tough to narrow down the options. To truly appreciate the beauty of Arizona, I’d recommend going on a hike. Camelback Mountain offers breathtaking views, but if you’re looking for something a bit easier, the Papago Park or the Phoenix Mountain Preserve is a great alternative. Afterward, enjoy breakfast at Le Grande Orange, where you can also pick up some charming local souvenirs.

If shopping is your thing, Old Town Scottsdale and Fashion Square Mall are must-visits. For an unforgettable dining experience, you can’t go wrong with Café Monarch—the food and ambiance are truly unmatched. After dinner, unwind with a drink at the newly opened Global Ambassador or the stylish Jade Bar at Sanctuary.

Devote the next day to exploring some of the valley’s exceptional museums. The Heard Museum, the Phoenix Art Museum, and The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) are among my favorites. The Heard Museum, in particular, offers weekend activities and has a delicious little café. If you’re traveling with kids, the I.D.E.A. Museum is a must-visit, with its hands-on activities that spark children’s creativity. While in downtown Mesa, take a stroll along Main Street. Worth Takeaway is one of my favorite spots for lunch, and you’ll find arcades, doughnut shops, and music stores that could easily fill an entire afternoon.

If time permits, a visit to Sedona is an absolute must. Its unique beauty makes it one of my favorite places on Earth, and it’s definitely worth the drive.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m overwhelmed with gratitude when I think about the incredible support I have in my life. Starting my own business has been a huge challenge, but I’ve been surrounded by cheerleaders at every turn. My family, friends, and clients believe in me—even more than I believe in myself at times. I’ve come to realize that having a strong support network is crucial when launching a business, and I’m incredibly grateful for each and every one of them.
