Meet Heidi B | Speaker, Author, & Business Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi B and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heidi, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
One of the most powerful tools I’ve cultivated in my business has been the willingness to change my mind.
At its core, most of us want to serve people, to deliver an awesome product, result, or transformation and to make great money doing it. And then we build the business model on top of that. So when we get kinda locked in to what we think it should look like, when our egos really get attached to that, we can miss opportunities to deliver even better results to our people.
For me staying open minded has been the name of the game. So that means putting together an offer, testing it out, selling it, assessing the results of the sales cycle, and then pivoting (or changing my mind) if necessary; has helped me find my zone of genius and create awesome results for my clients.

What should our readers know about your business?
In 2018, I left my job as a Crime Analyst with the City of Portland because I knew I wanted to write a book. I gave myself a year to write it and either get it under contract or get it published. In that time, I became really attached to the idea of landing a book deal. And I sent pitch after pitch to literary agents. Often I’d get no response as all, but when I did it was always a hard pass.
I KNEW there were women out there that needed to hear the message in my book. And I had to ask myself, “is it more important that I get a book deal? Or is it more important that this message of healing and hope is out in the world?” My ego wanted that freakin’ book deal. My heart wanted to help.
So, I shelved the book proposal, set aside the attachment to the book deal and self-published my book; Relationship Ready: How I Stopped F*cking Randos and Started Cupcaking my Soulmate, on Amazon 364 days after I left my day job. It’s now available in paperback, kindle, or on Audible!
In writing, publishing and marketing the book, I discovered my gift for coaching entrepreneurial women with small businesses. And I’ve been off to the races ever since!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, if you come to Portland, we’re gonna nosh! So honesty, I’d take you on a tour of the tastiest spots in the city! Plus, we’ll have to grab some Nike Bike town bikes and zip across a couple of bridges (we have something like 9 bridges, after all). And, of course, we’re the rose city, so if you come in the summertime, we’re hitting the Portland’s legendary rose gardens!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Omg so many people deserve credit and recognition in my story! I haven’t done any of this alone!
I’d love to shout-out Krista Lane (principal at Noel Estelle Creatives) for creating an incredible press kit that I send out with every media outlet and podcast I pitch!
I have had absolutely incredible mentors from the get go; including Lindsey Schwartz, Hannah Wells and the Powerhouse Women Community, Rosie Acosta, Karey Northington, and Melanie Childers (who all coached my along my path).
I’ve had incredible clients who share about the work we’re doing!
Finally, I’m a sober woman in recovery and my life would ABSOLUTELY NOT look like this if it weren’t for doing 12-step recovery work.
