We had the good fortune of connecting with HRH Queen Ameenata Koita Asaleh II and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi HRH Queen Ameenata, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
For me, one of the most important lessons I have learned on this  journey is to set your boundaries and stick to them. We live in a  “microwave society” and sometimes things can get overwhelming, and stressful, and you can even find yourself in positions where you must make some sticky decisions. If you set your boundaries up front, then making those decisions can be a bit easier. I always say when it gets to a place where you are no longer valued, respected, or heard then you must be strong enough to number one realize it, and number two
strong enough to walk away. Everything has a season and when the season ends, love yourself enough to move on if it is no longer emotionally healthy for you to remain. Setting clear boundaries for myself and communicating those to others
has been a lifesaver for me. I know my worth and when others don’t then I move on to where the value lies. Now I must say you always want to put thought into this decision and not pull out too early and mess up an opportunity, that is where setting clear boundaries comes in. You know what is right for you. Trust it.
I have also learned the importance of boundaries. I have also learned the importance of boundaries. It is an absolute must that you obtain some sort of work-life balance. That I think is very difficult for a lot of people. Remember life is meant to be lived, if you are not enjoying your journey then you are not living you are just existing. For me, I want to live so I make sure to find a reason to smile and laugh daily. And I try to leave any environment I am in, brighter than
it was when I arrived.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of the main things which sets me apart is my heart. I always say my heart is my biggest blessing and curse all at the same time. It’s strange because I am guided by my heart and love for humanity, it is also that love that oftentimes gets me into situations where I am vulnerable to being used and taken advantage of. Because of this, I try hard to find projects that benefit humanity in a way that allows me to serve on my own terms. One thing that I am extremely proud of is my Menstrual Cup Campaign which I launched in 2021, as a result, I have been able to supply hundreds of school-aged girls with menstrual cups enabling them to attend and remain in school. Every $10 donation supports a girl for 10 years. This is incredible!  Just think for $10 you can change the life of another person.  It doesn’t get much better than that! I have also started a new Pan-African organization called the Diaspora African Kingdoms Alliance which is dedicated to the unity of the Global African Family.  This is something that keeps me very busy, and I am very passionate about it.  Serving the Global African Family and working with my fellow African Royals on the Continent of Africa is
very fulfilling. Providing services to people who want to connect back to their African Roots, repatriate back to the continent, or want to expand their business onto the continent is something that my team and I are proud to do. We have formed strong partnerships globally and we are really making an impact. The road to get where I am now has not been an easy one and in fact, has been filled with many hurdles or should I say lessons and opportunities for growth. I always say life never flunks you out, you just get re-enrolled until you learn the lesson. I think for me that has been my biggest challenge, learning the lesson and growing the first time around. I got here by simply getting back up after each and every fall and trust me there have been many. Just keep going no
matter what. What I want people to really know is that what you see is what you get when it comes to me. I am not perfect, but I am honest, trustworthy, and truthful, and I really do want to see you win. When I say I don’t compete with people, I really mean it. There is enough room for everyone to make a difference and to be successful in their purpose. And I am here to help encourage you in any way that I can. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week-long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

You know, Arizona is a wonderful state and there are many things to do here. I think I would take them up north to get out of the heat and enjoy Antelope Canyon, that place is so beautiful. A morning hot air balloon ride across Phoenix to see the awesome sunrise would be a great way to start off any day. I really enjoy Tombstone, that place is so interesting, you get to read all those headstones and even enjoy old cowboy live event shows. And you can never go wrong with shopping! We have some great ethnic foods here in Arizona, Mexican, Ethiopian, Jamaican, Italian, Soul, you name it, so whatever my friend is in the
mood for, we can get that. I’m not a drinker of alcohol, but if my friend wanted something I’m sure I would be able to find it. Maybe we would finish the week with a day of family and friends around the BBQ grill, which is always a hit with some cards and dominoes just laughing and having a good time with loved ones.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There have been so many people along my journey that have played a major role in getting me to where I am now, that it would take an entire book to list them all. Countless mentors and organizations which I have volunteered for, friends, and family members, however, the one place that comes to mind immediately is my first official job which was New Creations Daycare and Learning Center. Working with all those children and their parents, the different personalities really taught me a lot of things that helped shape the person I am today. The
lasting lesson that I learned is that you have to be able to work with all kinds of people. Accept people for who they are and deal with them accordingly. If you can master that, then things become a lot easier, at least in my opinion.
