We had the good fortune of connecting with Izzy Salazar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Izzy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think that taking risks often leads to prosperous outcomes. Something I have learned is that when you put yourself into challenging situations, situations that require you to grow and feel uncomfortable, those moments are when really great things start to happen! For example, we decided to start Shameless Burger right in the middle of COVID. That presented many challenges but, it forced us to adapt and to know with certainty we were on to something special.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Shameless Burger is a family business through and through. At every single pop-up you will find my fianceé Connor on the grill, my sister Sofia on the line wrapping burgers and I’ll be there taking your order. What I love most about the three of us… its our hustle! We always seem to make it work regardless of the hand we are dealt. I think the best way to overcome challenges is to ask for help when you need it and to understand that there is always another good opportunity coming your way, Of course it has not been easy, but good things rarely are. I want the world to know that this latina/woman owned business will change the way the world sees plant-based foods!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow this is a hard one, almost too many spots to name! We would definitely start the morning off right with a Japanese-styled Iced coffee from Provision followed by a beautiful hike at Piestewa Peak. For an outdoor lunch I would recommend Chantico for its vegan and non vegan options, also their drinks are fabulous! A great place to hang out in the afternoon & grab a beer is The Wandering Tortoise. Roosevelt Row is one of the most unique spots in the valley.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The amount of love and support we have received from family, friends, even strangers has been incredible! If there is one group we would like to shoutout, it would be the bars and venues around the valley. From the team behind Wandering Tortoise, Sleepy Whale & The Theodore, to the guys at Thunderbird Lounge their generosity has really helped us grow. Anytime we head to Roosevelt Row and set up with the incredible women at Greenwood Brewing, the whole staff treats us like family and the feeling is mutual. Its relationships like this that gave Shameless Burger its first opportunity to build its brand.
