We had the good fortune of connecting with James Kerr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My wife didn’t feel safe when I was away. I offered to buy her gun but she didn’t want to shoot anyone. I offered to get her a big dog but should didn’t want it to get hurt.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When my wife mentioned she didn’t feel safe when I was away on business. I offered to buy her a gun. But she didn’t want to hurt anyone. I then suggested a big dog, but she didn’t want the dog to get hurt while protecting her and the kids.

My background is mechanical engineering, so after some careful thought I realized the best solution is actually one that keeps all that bad stuff out of your home. We could get those bars, but they look ugly. Or rolling shutters, but they only work when they are down – and who can live like that?

The best solution is something that looks like a typical solar screen but is stronger than bars.

The need for security is timeless. Everyone wants it and will always want it. We are fortunate to help people have the safe and happy homes the deserve.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a general aviation pilot and fly for fun whenever I get the chance. If a friend were in town, I would take him or her on a short hop to Sedona. That airport rises into the sky like a crimson aircraft carrier in the desert. Stunning scenery. There’s a neat cafe there at the airport. After a day or so of sightseeing we would head to Flagstaff for a few days of hiking, pizza and beer.
