Meet Sniper J | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sniper J and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sniper J, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is to TRUST MYSELF. There’s been countless times where my vision was blinded because of the simple “art” of comparison. The minute I look anywhere else besides what I’m doing is when I notice that I’m the most stuck and unhappy. Another thing that comes with that is when you make that observation, you tend to TRY to be different afterwards. I think there’s too many people who TRY to be different and end up blending in more than we ever have. We are already so different. There’s a unique energy behind every individual but a lot of us never knew how to embrace it and love it.
I think ever since I’ve realized that if speak my truth and embrace every side of me, success in inevitable. Also, it feels better to be successful when you know that it’s YOU and not just a character you’re playing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started making music at maybe 10 or 11 years old and I honestly just wanted to be Eminem. I watched 8 mile and that inspired me enough to then start rap battling in middle school with my friend, Dex. I’d take it very serious and spend some of my lunch in the bathroom just writing out what I was going to say. That would then lead to me going home and writing more and then it later just transitioned into song writing.
Although my passion for music is the same, the purpose has drastically changed. I use my music as a form of self-expression now because to be honest. I’m not the greatest communicator and I’m not the best at articulating myself when talking to people. This is where the music comes into play. I put all of my genuine emotion into my music whether it’s sad, happy, angry, love, etc.
Music is my way to express first and it just happens to be that people play it and FEEL it and I am forever grateful beyond words for that. I feel understood this way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Currently, I live in a city called Dryden in Ontario. There’s not much to do here so I spend most of my time inside making music but when I make sure to give my mind a break and go outside sometimes and when I do, I walk through a forest. So to be honest, I’d just bring them along for a little walk in the forest lmao.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to all my brothers; F8L, Jay 1:40, Adil, DDK, justicexavier, Muchi and SincerelyT. Although they’re all artists, we have all have a connection far beyond the ego and I can talk to any of these beautiful people about anything. I’m glad to not only be fulfilling our dreams together but also to just doing LIFE together.
