We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenn Sharon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenn, what do you attribute your success to?
Ironically I have the pandemic and my divorce to thank for the success I’m seeing with JennSharonArt. During the height of quarantine in March and April of 2020 I was also going through a divorce. As many of us did during that time, I felt like everything I knew was slipping like sand through my fingers. My business was only just a year old at the time and I told myself there was no way I was going to allow it to become another grain of sand to watch slip away. My pain became a fire that wouldn’t let me stop creating myself and creating art. When my emotions became too much to bear I allowed them to spill out in color to create expressive abstract pieces. When there were no art shows to apply for I created Pink House, my own Covid-friendly art show and held it in my backyard. Now I’m organizing and curating Pink House all over Orlando. It’s really quite beautiful that I can be grateful for the fire had all the potential in the world to burn my business to the ground.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a self taught artist. I work almost exclusively in a loose form of abstract expressionism using mixed media. And by mixed media I mean all the media. I will throw just about anything on a canvas if it feels right – acrylics, watercolors, paint pens, old paintings of mine that I’ve cut up, dried paint I’ve peeled off my palette, leaves, sand, you get the idea. What has come of this is a style that I can call uniquely my own, something I am proud of and love about my work. But it took a lot of time and self acceptance to get here. Because my style is so unique, I’ve dealt with a great deal of imposter syndrome. I have come to truly believe that there is space for all our art, and that the world becomes a better place for each of our visions, including mine. My hope is that each piece evokes courage and inspiration in others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh this is a fun one! I am an Orlando native and am a huge fan of my city and her small business owners. We would have to start the days with yoga at The Peaceful Peacock. We would go for scenic walks through Mead Gardens, Leu Gardens, and around Lake Eola. We would have to visit the Orlando Museum of Art, The House on Lang, and East End Market. For the best eats and brews we would check out The Black Rooster, Dixie Dharma, Hourglass Brewery, Kelly’s Ice Cream, and lastly and most favorite, The Commission Beer Chamber. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my partner and biggest fan, Brendon Payne who is always there to see what I can’t, and to encourage me when I’m running out of steam. To my dad, Randy Davison who started believing in me long before I believed in myself and spends countless hours on my website and print materials. To my mom, Susan Davison whose pride in me is palpable and forges me on. To my sisters, Rachel and Jenna, who laugh with me, cry with me, and paint with me. I wouldn’t be who I am today without these beautiful people in my life. To everyone who has purchased my work, given a like or a follow, been a vendor or attended a Pink House event, or even just shared a kind word, I would not be here today without you. Each of you mean the world to me.
