We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Reich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenna, how does your business help the community?
I’m always considering ways I can impact my community and give back. Some of my favorite ways to build community, connect with people, and offer my services to a broader audience include collaborations with local businesses, offering photography services to nonprofits, working with refugees, giving away family sessions to underprivileged families, and gifting sessions to schools for fundraising efforts. Photography has a unique way of impacting the world through storytelling and it’s my goal to use my skills to shed light on important issues in our community.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My photography journey started with a gift from my husband. He bought me my first DSLR shortly after our son was born. I was so afraid to learn the tech that I left it sat in the box for weeks! Eventually, I got the nerve to give it a go and thankfully stayed motivated by the fact that I wanted to capture my son’s first year. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I was drawn to images which were unposed, filled with humor, and captured real life. From the beginning, I was determined to photograph families with a documentary approach and it’s really catching on. I think people have grown tired of seeing everyone else’s highlight reel. Documentary family photography is relatable and beautiful – it’s also great for reluctant spouses because there is no pressure to dress a specific way or smile. Everyone gets to be themselves!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My sister recently came to visit from D.C. and we had an amazing time at some of my favorite local businesses. We started our day at Presta Coffee Roasters, then ate brunch at Seis. Afterwards we hit up the amazing shops at the MSA Annex where I bought the cutest shirt from Why I Love Where I Live. Next, we wandered downtown and grabbed a juice from Berry Greens. We browsed books at Bookmans and did some thrifting on 4th Ave. We stopped in Pop Cycle for a few souvenirs before ending the day at Tumerico. Some of our favorite places we hiked that week were Sabino Canyon, Tanque Verde Falls and The Desert Museum. Tucson has such a wonderful array of things to do that I wouldn’t be able to list them all here, but let’s suffice it to say there’s something for everyone and you can’t get bored!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Surprisingly, my greatest mentors have been fellow photographers in the community. The support and companionship I’ve had over the years from my colleagues has really shaped my business and gave me the confidence to pursue photography full time. I especially want to give a shout out to Kristin Anderson Photography for always supporting my work and lending advice.
