We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer McCray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my business about six years ago, I always wanted to start a T-shirt brand for the purpose of giving inspiration to those who needed it. Also local clothing brands in my city was thriving and I wanted to be a part of it because it was so fresh and creative, and I knew that I could be in that space also. Looking back mentally I wasn’t ready to start I did the research to get a taste of how to begin but it stopped at that. It was fear of failure that really kept me from getting started I don’t know what it is about when we start something new self doubt, not believing in yourself, second guessing yourself, etc. comes into play. I just put it to the side for a long time, but in the back of my mind I kept thinking about it. I wasn’t very confident, and I always tricked myself into believing that no one would every support what I’m trying to do, or my creativity wasn’t good enough, and that I couldn’t connect with other brands. I had to let that FEAR go and just take a chance, because we will never know how things could work out unless we try. I knew I wasn’t the only one going through these things so that’s when World Creatorz was born it’s about creating your own world with no boundaries to reach your fullest potential in life. I want people to know that it’s possible to let go what has been holding you back from achieving your goals.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
World Creatorz is a fairly new business we mainly sell online and from time to time we will do pop-up shops so the community can become familiar with who we are. Currently we sell T-Shirts, socks, Dad Hats, hoodies, slides, and stretch beaded bracelets. In the future we are definitely looking to add more unique items to our website because we are still in the stages of seeing what products are selling the most and which ones are not. I am most proud of the fact that I haven’t quit, a lot of times in my life I tried different things and when it got tough I would just quit. I’m still in the learning phase of everything but I’m just glad that I have build up the persistence to continue to work at it everyday.
I got where I am today by just continuing to learn and put what I have learn into action. Also having the support of my friends, family, customers, and mentors and putting processes in action that will help us grow. It’s just basically seeing what works, and what doesn’t and how to make things better that we are lacking in.
It wasn’t easy I overcame the challenges by just remembering my WHY remembering why I started World Creatorz, and the impact that I want to make, my why just kept me motivated. Also, I stopped worrying about how everything was going to happen, when I did that I noticed it took me away from focusing on the now.
Lessons that I have learned along the way is to never stop educating yourself, things are not going to be perfect you can start where you are, there will be challenging times along the way so find ways to keep yourself motivated. I’ve learn that we have to be around like minded individuals, don’t be afraid to collaborate with other brands that are in your niche, don’t take things personal everything is not for everybody, and that your friends and family are not your customers.
I want the world to know that World Creatorz is about inspiring individuals to work towards reaching their fullest potential in life. Everyday we create our own worlds whether we recognize it or not it’s by the choices and decisions that we make, just know that you can create the life that you deserve.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If someone was visiting the City of Detroit we definitely have to go to Coney Island which is a restaurant they all have different names and they are a staple in Detroit. Coney Islands are know for chilli dogs it’ a lot of them in the city but me personally when I’m downtown I like to go to Lafayette Coney Island. Campus Martius is not far from there you can hang out and ice skate in the winter, and hang out in the summer time to skate and watch movies outside. We have the Detroit Historical Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Science Center, and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History all in one area. Sweet Potato Sensation which is black owned restaurant, Cuzzo’s they are famous for their chicken and waffles, Bakers Lounge is a staple in Detroit they have food and jazz. We can go shopping in the Livernois shopping district to support black owned businesses, We also have The Riverwalk, and Belle Isle Park where a lot of people hang out, and I haven’t even hit the surface.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I contribute my wife to the bulk of my success no matter what she has always supported me through the good and bad she is always there to encourage and inspire me to do better. My friends and family continues to play a big part with supporting me, and also my customers without them there is no World Creatorz. Also I want to give a shoutout to Eric Thomas for motivation, T-Shirt Millionaire family for guidance, and the ability to help one another, and Justin Phillips for being a mentor. Also I would like to thank the World Creatorz Community who has liked, shared, commented, and gave me suggestions and encouragement you are greatly appreciated.
