We had the good fortune of connecting with Jess Marinos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jess, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My postpartum journey was a rough one. When I became a doula it was so important to me to be there for the moms in a way I didn’t feel anyone was there for me. To be completely supported and nurtured with zero judgement and provide a safe space for whatever the families needed during this journey. I didn’t want there to be boundaries or restrictions on my support and the care I gave.
I am currently working on creating a retreat center where moms and families can come heal and rest immediately after giving birth. A place where all the support and care providers are under one roof and easily accessed within one central location.
I will also be providing a scholarship program for those who cannot afford the support they absolutely deserve.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My journey will always and forever be a beautiful work in progress. It is ever evolving and I am learning and growing from some amazing people.
My business have evolved from just me working with an agency hoping I would get assigned an amazing family to help, to me opening my own postpartum retreat center for moms and families to heal and learn on their new journey into parenthood.
Being in business for yourself is never easy, but it is one of the most fun challenges I have ever attempted! Sometimes I get scared and don’t know if I make the right decisions sometimes, but ultimately I know my main driver in my career is just to help others and put out good into the world and I try to keep that as my motivator.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Sedona is by far one of my favorite places to explore in AZ. I try to get up there once a month if I can swing it. There are so many amazing restaurants and hiking trails to explore! Absolutely something for everyone up there, and the scenery is one of a kind!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My inspiration comes from my midwives and doulas at Blossom Birthing Center. When I was pregnant and in labor I had the most incredible support that words cannot describe.
After I had my son, I felt I didn’t know where to turn for proper help and support. That is why I want to create a space to fill in that gap we are currently missing in the postpartum world.
