We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesselyne Abel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jesselyne, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When starting Ink Jess Poetry LLC, our mission is to bring the power of poetry to individuals and businesses, enriching their lives and enhancing their communication. We aim to foster a love of poetry and writing in all those we serve, and to help them discover the power and beauty of the written word. We believe that poetry has the ability to connect us to our emotions, to each other, and to the world around us in profound ways.
Through our poetry services, we strive to create personalized and meaningful experiences for our clients. Whether it’s a custom poem for a special occasion or event, a poetic marketing campaign to elevate a brand’s messaging, or a poetry workshop to inspire creativity and connection within a team, we are committed to delivering high-quality, impactful poetry that resonates deeply with our clients.
We are passionate about the art of poetry and the positive impact it can have on individuals and society as a whole.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an orthoptist in my day job which is a specialist in eye misalignment and double vision. My love is poetry. I’m a poet and author, on a journey of turning my creative side into a business. I’ve been writing poetry since I was 7, constantly developing my craft. Poetry is not just a way to release emotions or a hobby for me. I have the ability to paint pictures with words, crafting a message and making people emote, discuss topics and grow. My biggest accomplishment was in Sept 2020 when I debuted my first poetry book Laced in Love on Amazon. I wrote it at a time when I noticed that at the root of everything (good and bad) we are all trying to fill this void. We are all trying to search for love. The book is sectioned in four main areas: Love of Self, Love of a Partner, Love of Life and Love of Spirit. I want the world to know that my goal is to make poetry accessible and relevant to everyone, fostering a greater appreciation for the beauty and power of language. I want my poetry to be a voice to feelings unsaid.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I recently moved to Pittsburgh,PA . I would take them to Carnegie Museum, Point park, mattress factory Museum, Phipps Botanical Garden and Mount Washington. If there is an open mic going on, I’d see if I can perform and we can go there. We’d eat at Smiling Banana Leaf which my favorite thia restaurant.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost , I want to thank my parents and brother for always believing in me and pushing me towards my goals. Secondly, if it wasn’t for Racquel Reece and Apostle Faith Walters with mentorship and guidance.
