We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessi Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessi, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose an artistic career path when I was very young, I always knew I wanted to create art of some kind and I began in fashion design, which led to graphic design, and eventually to tattooing. I grew up in a family full of artists of different mediums, my maternal Grandmother was a painter, my Grandfather was a musician, and that carried on to my brother, cousins, and myself! We all feel it’s in our blood to express ourselves creatively so it was a natural path I knew I would take. Aside from tattooing, I am working on my first art exhibit for 2025 with pieces made from fibers and natural materials and I intend to continue to build my career in that direction.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been officially tattooing for just about two years now and I am constantly evolving my style as I continue to learn this art. I am currently loving doing tattoos that are nature-based designs. I am studying rare animals, flora, insects, and sea life to create unique tattoos. My husband and I have a private studio that we share and have created a really cool space to share with our clients…we strive to have a super comfortable environment including lots of pillows, a window bird feeder (so you can watch the birds while you get tattooed!), chill music, and of course lots of art. We like our clients to feel at-ease when they come in because we are fully aware that getting a tattoo can be nerve-wracking so we are just there to make it as easy and relaxing as possible.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’re fairly new to the East Side so we’re still learning about cool places and things to see over here, but so far my husband and I like breakfast at Prep and Pastry in Gilbert, lunch at Joyride Taco, and we are big nature lovers so a cool hike over in San Tan would be a great afternoon activity.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success is due to the mentorship and support of my husband, Zack Taylor, who has been tattooing for over a decade. He has taught me everything he knows and has been so patient with me as I have transitioned into this career. I am lucky to have the love and support of my entire family, since all of us are artists in our own way, we are constantly motivating and promoting one another’s work, I am thankful to have such a great support system!
