Meet Jessica Tovar | Cosmetic Tattoo Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Tovar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work-life balance is absolutely necessary, however to a certain extent. When you’re chasing your dreams and goals, it’s going to take devotion and dedication. Your vision of success should demand everything you have to give, almost like an obsession! It calls for early mornings, late nights, passing up social events and that leads to a short time of being unbalanced. There’s nothing wrong with that and in the end, you’ll be happy and proud of the sacrifices you made to achieve what you set out to accomplish!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a professionally licensed and certified Cosmetic Tattoo Artist, and 3D Areola Paramedical Tattoo Artist. I hold a true passion for beauty in all forms and take immense pride in not only my artistic abilities but creating a lasting impression on my clients, instilling a feeling and experience with them that’s unforgettable. My journey started in 2009 when I became a licensed Cosmetologist and I’m proud to say I’ve been blessed with 14 incredible years of success, and growth, with many lessons learned in between. I spent 10 years of my time as a hairstylist and makeup artist preforming cuts, color, up-dos and makeup for weddings and special events. I loved what I did however, I always knew I was destined for more… Chasing my dreams, I moved away from my beautiful home of San Jose, CA to pursue a new life down in San Diego. Without a doubt, it was the BEST decision I could have ever made for myself. During that time, I grew professionally & personally and in 2017 I met my husband. Serving as a United States Marine, his service comes with the challenge and demand of constant moves around the country and the world. Over the past 6 years we’ve lived in San Diego, Virginia, Japan, and are currently in Arizona! The constant challenge of change every few years is extremely difficult, but the life experiences along the way are nothing short of incredible! I’m fortunate enough to have experienced different parts of the world, immersing myself into their cultures and taking my business with me along the way, while experiencing everything this beautiful world has to offer! While in Japan, I focused on increasing my education in cosmetic tattooing and devoting my efforts to learning and perfecting paramedical tattoos. To have the privilege of giving my clients the gift of feeling confident and comfortable in their own skin with my artistic abilities is truly an honor. I always devote myself to helping others and any opportunity I have, is nothing short of a dream come true!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I could describe the perfect vacation with any friend, it would involve us exploring all the local coffee shops and exploring all of Arizona’s amazing hiking spots. The stunning views of the red rocks in Sedona, AZ and enjoying a phenomenal cup of coffee would take anyone’s breath away!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve been incredibly blessed and fortunate to have many mentors throughout my career. They truly invested in me and the impact they gave is something that I cherish & admire, tremendously! I attribute my successes to their teachings. However, above anyone else, my husband is the number one person that I’m the most thankful and grateful for. It’s with his unwavering support, love, and encouragement that I am blessed enough to pursue my dreams. Growth never stops and with my husband by my side, I will undoubtedly become the best version of myself!
