We had the good fortune of connecting with Jimmy Rios and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jimmy, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Over 23 years of mistakes in building businesses from Mortgages to Tax Preparation, Insurance, lending and Real Estate. I noticed that in my businesses and in many of my clients business models no one had a go-to mentor or advisor to help them navigate through all the intricate mazes that one goes through in running a business successfully. This void had to be filled and brought to the masses in a way that endeared trust and action at an affordable price that could be attained by any business owner.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is a true microcosm of everything that has made me who I am today. Meaning that through 23 years of continual failures and mistakes in business and my continual determination to succeed and never give up I was able to master certain areas of business that allowed me to help others. When you start a business there’s a lot of variables that influence the success or failure of such business. The biggest mistake we make is not asking for help. We don’t organize ourselves properly and in turn build a very soft and weak foundation that when tested oftentimes fails. We blame our busy and hectic lifestyles to the business and lack getting the proper education and training to attend to the business of getting clients to pay for a service or product without thinking of the integral pieces of the puzzle that are missing to make the business successful. My business was never easy and it took a lot of going to back to the lab to find the right formula. I think I’m always in the lab learning and fine tuning my formula. The biggest mistake one can make is thinking that you can do it all and have it figured out. Even super high level CFO’s have a team and board of directors to help guide the decisions that are made. Why is it any different when you are a smaller entity? That is why the Rios Business Advisors was born to help other business owners find the support in all areas of business to get the guidance to make the proper choices. Being a boutique style of firm where it’s more personable and custom fit for each individual is what sets us apart. People enjoy working in a smaller more intimate environment and that’s the type of atmosphere I try to provide. My motto is “We take you Eye Level to High Level!”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friends had never visited Arizona before and they only had one week I would take them to Sedona and take them to the Grand Canyon and Bearizona in Williams.. I would take them to Downtown Scottsdale and Tempe Town Lakeand go eat at El Pollo Supremo- absolutely the best chicken and tri tip combo meal for extremely low prices. Then I would take them to Downtown Phoenix on the lightrail and catch a comedy show at Standup Live and check out the restaurants and art on Roosevelt Row. If time allowed I would take them 4 hours south to Rocky Point Mexico for some beach time or go Salt River Tubing or maybe catch a sunset cruise on the Dolly steamboat at Canyon lake.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be anywhere right now if I didn’t first give all glory and accolades to my God because he’s formulated all that has been attained to this point. But on a personal level I give my wife Sylvia Rios the most credit for staying true to the game with me and not giving up even when our backs were against the wall. She’s given me the perspective to discern better on choices that have to be made and has a work ethic that can only be rivaled by myself – but her ability to attain the needed licenses and training even when she didn’t want to – showed how much she supported my vision and business model.
