We had the good fortune of connecting with JJ Peters and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi JJ, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My end goal right now is to become a full-time sports Broadcaster. I would also love to do the Podcast full time. I enjoy conducting the interviews and talking to others podcasters. Over the last year, I have interviewed a plethora of podcasters and Youtubers. Last year I had the privilege to write for the Kirkwood Mens Basketball team on Eaglevoice.com. Kirkwood is a junior college in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In fact, the mens basketball team at Kirkwood has won 12 NJCAA titles and almost every year they are in contention for a championship. My favorite sports personalities are Dan Patrick, Pat Mcafee, Rich Eisen, the guys at Pardon My Take, Dave Portnoy and others. For all of my life I have been an avid sports fan. My next goal to have over 1,000 subscribers on Youtube. I am more than half way there and it mean so much to me. I have worked so hard over the past year and I am seeing a lot of success, especially with the Youtube channel. To sum it all up, it would be my dream if i could go do sports broadcasting or became a sports personality.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I have a podcast that is called The Sports Town Podcast. I started the podcast about a year and half ago. However, I did not go on Youtube until last October. Youtube is definitely where most of my traffic comes from and also get a lot of feedback from there. I think the most thing that sets me apart from other podcasts and youtube channels is my consistency, drive and having good editing skills. I am very excited about getting close to 1,000 subscribers and getting a few sponsors for the podcast. The reason why I started the podcast was because I liked watching sports and for most of my life I wanted to be a sports broadcaster. The reason why I went on Youtube was because my goal was to more traffic to podcast and worked out tremendously. It has not been easy and there has been a lot of work, but it is definitely been worth it. There has been a lot lessons I have learned along the way, but the biggest one that I have learned so far is probably to check my work my more than just twice and not be in such a hurry to release it. A lot of times I will have a video that I am done with and I am in such a hurry to release it that after its published, I find something that is not right and it will end up messing up the whole video. So I would say that not being in a hurry to release something and giving yourself a lot of time to edit it. And of course, checking it a plethora of times before you release anything. I learned as a child that haste makes waste and that saying is so true. The one thing I want people to about my podcast or Youtube channel is that I work hard and I am very dedicated to it. I also would like to say my channel has absolutely no politics.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well if I had a friend from out of state coming to hang out with me for a week, here is what I would do. First we would probably play a few rounds of golf. Then we would probably go out to eat and that place would probably be get some pizza. Where I live there is really good pizza place called Caseys. Even though its a gas station, it has really good pizza and has really good breakfast pizza too. Then we would probably go play some video games for a little bit. After that we would go bowling and maybe get some food there as well. To finish the day we would go to a minor league baseball game and watch the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The Kernels are lower single A team and an affiliate to the Minnesota Twins. There are a few other things to do where I live, but what I told you would be the most exciting for me and my friend. There are a few other places to hang out. I live next to 2 malls and there is trampoline park near me as well. It is called Sky Zone and its a blast. Last but not certainly least, there is a place called Hawkeye Downs and its a racing track, They have races every week in the summer and have special events in the winter.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well, my brother Rob deserves a lot of credit. He was the one that gave me the idea to do a podcast. For for the first month and a half he helped me write and produce the podcast. My brother was a huge help and my podcast would not have started if it was not for him.
