Meet Joan Claire Gilbert | Attorney & Executive Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joan Claire Gilbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joan Claire, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After a successful legal career and the birth of my second child, I struggled for about a decade with autoimmune spinal arthritis. Thankfully I had my faith to fall back on and some great dietary practices that helped me survive with two young children, but extremely painful flares were still fairly regular.
It wasn’t until I started to sincerely delve into personal development (working on my unhelpful thinking) that I noticed a significant and lasting improvement in my disease symptoms. I decided to share my learnings and coach others with similar obstacles in their thinking. I also loved the idea of being my own boss and being able to follow through with my creative ideas, in service to others. Coaching others and getting coached by others continually help me expand as a wife, mother, daughter, friend, and entrepreneur.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I do deep inner work with my clients on their unhelpful thinking, which creates the way they experience life, their relationships, and their business outcomes. When you change your thinking, you can gain freedom without changing anything “out there.”
This lifelong powerful tool can help you transform all your relationships and combat stress, anxiety, resentment, anger, and self-doubt.
I strive to embody what I help my clients with — loving myself unconditionally and creating everything I want in life through love, owning my gifts and power. I struggle with self-doubt at times, but I’m able to catch myself much more quickly than I used to, or I simply don’t take it too seriously. I’ve learned to be okay with not always feeling okay or my best. I do my best to doubt my self-doubt, not who I create myself to be through my consciously created thinking or Declarations (inspired statements about how I see myself and the world).
If you spend some time with me you will see that I am Generous Loving Presence but I also call you out on your stories and thinking that don’t serve you so you can play full out in your personal and professional life.
I feel particularly called at this time to serve business leaders and law firm managing partners, helping them build hugely effective and collaborative teams, which also increases business profitability. I’m super proud of my ability to help team members resolve conflict and work together as leaders for others in their company.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite places in the area:
Amped Coffee Company in Anthem to chill out in the outdoor seating over an iced tea or coffee,
The Mission, a wonderful Mexican restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale,
A Desert Hills trailhead hike in the spring when the wildflowers are blooming,
A hike at Cathedral Rock in Sedona,
And a summer swim at Crescent Moon Ranch in Sedona, followed by ice cream at Tlaquepaque!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to acknowledge:
Minor Arias, a fellow amazing coach and friend, who mentioned my name for this interview;
Steve Hardison, “The Ultimate Coach” here in Mesa, AZ, and all his incredible clients, including my own psycho-spiritual coach/mentor for a year, Daniel Harner, who lives up in Sedona; and
My parents, Mark and Jolly Krautmann — I owe them my life and a beautiful childhood with travels around the world, growing up in a tree nursery family business in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon. They model excellence and a tremendous work ethic with generous hearts.
Finally, I’d love to acknowledge my dear husband, David Gilbert, who is my unconditionally loving #1 support person and whom I am incredibly blessed to know and love better each day. He is the one who originally led me into personal development as a way to find relief from my unhelpful thinking.
Some of my favorite books include: The Gentle Art of Blessing by Pierre Pradervand, The Collaborative Way by Lloyd and Jason Fickett, He and I by Gabrielle Bossis, and The Ultimate Coach by Amy Hardison and Alan D. Thompson.
