We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh “Crisco Kidd” and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh “Crisco Kidd”, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
Conventional advice that I’ve always disagreed with is the idea of “staying in your lane” or that anyone should just “play it safe and find a career in the corporate world.” Simply put, this advice is just too limiting for the God-given potential we ALL possess.
While following a traditional career route—climbing the corporate ladder, earning a stable paycheck, and sticking to predictable roles–does lead to stability, long-term success and happiness for some, I knew it wasn’t for me. From an early age, I knew what I wanted to do and where I wanted to be; it was just a matter of how and when.
As a radio personality, content creator, and Realtor, I’ve been able to break away from traditional molds and build a successful and fulfilling career by blending creativity, media, and entrepreneurship. “Staying in your lane” often implies that people should avoid taking risks or pursuing passion projects outside their designated role or field. But in reality, many successful people and creative entrepreneurs have achieved great success by stepping outside of the boundaries other people have put on them.
The way I approach life is much more about creating your own opportunities and personal growth than following predetermined career paths. I believe that following your passion, building an authentic brand, and leveraging new platforms can be just as effective, if not more, than pursuing a traditional career in any industry. The rise and dominance of digital platforms, social media, and freelance opportunities means there are more ways than ever to create success outside the corporate structure.
By not “staying in my lane” and not following a path that others wanted me to follow, I was able to open myself up to new possibilities. Yes, it was and is riskier, but it’s also much more rewarding!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In short, I’m a connector. I’m an advocate for many issues affecting all of us at the local and larger levels and someone driven by purpose. My journey started DJing house parties for my friends at 15, and I never imagined that my passion for bringing people together through music would lead to the life and career I have today. Along the way, I learned the power of storytelling, authenticity, and using my platform to make a real difference.

Life threw me a curveball in 2004 when I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. It was one of the toughest challenges I’ve faced, but the love and support from my family and community carried me through. That experience didn’t just earn me the nickname “People’s Champ”—it deepened my commitment to give back, uplift others, and turn obstacles into opportunities.

Today, my work crosses multiple industries, but connection and impact are at the heart of everything I do. In real estate, I focus on empowering professionals and communities to understand wealth-building through property ownership and financial literacy. Whether I’m working with industry leaders, developing strategies for a real estate board, or leading initiatives to foster generational wealth, my goal is to break down barriers and make success accessible for everyone.

I’m also proud of my work outside the studio and “office.” As the in-game host for the Arizona Cardinals, I get to engage and energize thousands of fans at home, and through my nonprofit, Crisco’s Kids, we help provide essential resources and unique experiences for children and families in need.

I would say what sets me apart is my ability to meet people where they are—whether in a packed stadium, a community event, or a one-on-one conversation—and hopefully inspire them to reach higher and dig deeper. I bring together cultural awareness, lived experience, and a no-excuses approach to grow professionally and personally.

For me, success isn’t about accolades—it’s about how many lives you touch and how many people you can bring along on the journey. Actuality, for the past seven years, success has often looked like being the best father, partner, and human I can be for my family. I believe in staying humble, working smart and hard, and never forgetting where I came from and where I want to ultimately be. My mission is simple: empower and encourage others, build lasting memories with those who matter, and create opportunities that strengthen our communities.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If one of my best friends from home came to Phoenix for a week, I’d create an itinerary blending some of our Sonaran culture, AZ food, sports, and the desert’s natural beauty. When it comes to food, we’d have to visit some of my favorite spots like The Mexicano, Otro Cafe, Buck & Rider, Ta Carbon, and Postinos. Depending on the season, we’d play a round at any one of the great courses in the Valley and we’d have to catch a Suns or a D-backs game or they’d be my guest to watch the Cards. If they’re into art, we’d check out some of the art in the Roosevelt District or at anyone of the exhibitions, and we’d definitely make a trip to Manor and Trill Phoenix to pick up a few items. If it’s outdoors action they’re looking for, a hike at Camelback or North Mountain is a must, but if time permits, a day trip to Sedona for more outdoor activities, shopping, and dinner at Eloté Cafe would round out the experience. I truly believe Phoenix (and all of AZ) offers something for everyone—great food, vibrant culture, and unforgettable views!
