We had the good fortune of connecting with Judy Z. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Judy, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
For me, success isn’t just about the number of events I book or the size of the celebration. It’s about the experience that my clients have along the way. If a couple, family or organization can look back on their event and say, “I was fully present, I didn’t have to worry about a thing and out event felt like us,” then I consider that a success. Success also means creating balance for myself as a business owner, wife and mother to 3.

What should our readers know about your business?
Whatcha Need Planning started from a simple desire — to help people enjoy their special moments without the stress that comes with planning them. I specialize in event planning, coordination and décor for all types of celebrations, from intimate gatherings to big milestone events.

What truly sets me apart is the personal care I bring to every detail. I don’t just plan events — I listen, connect and create experiences that reflect each client’s story. It’s not just about timelines and décor; it’s about having clients show up to their event, be present and enjoy the moment while I handle the rest.
Getting here wasn’t easy. I started my business in a new town, without family or friends, and had to build everything from the ground up — connections, trust and a name in the community. There were challenges and moments of doubt but I stayed consistent, kept showing up, and poured my energy into every event, big or small. Over time, my love for creating beautiful, meaningful events helped me build a community around my work and relationships turned into opportunities.

The biggest lessons I’ve learned? Stay authentic, lead with goals and trust the process — growth takes time, but it’s worth it.
What I want people to know about me and Whatcha Need Planning is that we’re more than just an event service. Every event is handled with intention and every client becomes part of my story too. I’m excited for what’s ahead and grateful for every opportunity to turn special moments into lasting memories.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend (and their family) were visiting from New Orleans (where our friends and family are from), I’d want to show them everything that makes Arizona so special — the wide-open skies, red rock views, dry desert air and outdoor adventures that just aren’t possible by the bayou! Here’s how I’d plan a week filled with nature, good food, and Arizona beauty:

🌵 Day 1 – Welcome to the Desert with mountain views. I normally kick off dinner at my place with street tacos as traveling days can be so long.
🏜️ Day 2 – Sedona & Wineries. Kick off the early morning with a drive to Sedona to see the stunning red rock views and local wineries.
🌵 Day 3 – Explore locally & Play. Saguaro Lake Marina and Olive Mills are a must to bring my out of town visitors.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to start by thanking my husband. He’s been my biggest encourager from day one, always reminding me that I could turn my passion into something real. As a mom with no family nearby, there were so many moments where I have wondered how I’d be able to make it all work and he’s the reason for the birth of Whatcha Need (he actually thought of the business name). From watching the kids to being my support person, he had made it possible for me to show up fully for my clients and their events.

I also want to give so much credit to my assistants. They’ve stood right beside me through the beautiful chaos of event days — making sure timelines stay on track, helping me with the endless details and keeping me calm when things get overwhelming. They bring much positive energy and honestly, they make the hard work fun.

Because of their support, I’ve been able to pour into the community here in Queen Creek and beyond — helping families celebrate milestones, couples start their forever and organizations bring people together. None of this would have been possible without the people who continue to support me up and I’m so grateful to do what I love in the place I call home.
