We had the good fortune of connecting with Jules and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jules, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
One piece of conventional advice that I disagree with would be when folks tell you to have a backup plan. Yes, having backup plans are super helpful when planning surprise parties and making sure that you have enough money to pay rent on time. However, it is so crucial to go all in as a musician, that having a backup plan almost feels like you’re planning for it to not work out. Like you’re already giving up on yourself. I’m all for a backup plan, but when it comes to my dreams and goals as a musician, I know that the belief in myself and in my work ethic surpasses whatever “plan b” one may say I need.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional singer/songwriter and performer in Phoenix, Arizona! I’m mainly specialized in songwriting, but I have a long record of performing at restaurants and bars since I was 12. I’m most proud of the growth I’ve made over the last several years in my sound and in my writing. I think it shows exponentially in my music and I’m super grateful for those who’ve listened to my songs or have followed me since day 1. I think my sound is what sets me apart from other musicians. Everyone has their own lane, and I’m working to really hone mine while I’m in school learning how to develop my musicianship. The road to my version of success has not been easy, however, I know that I’ve grown so much since I started. I’d like to believe my brand as a person and as a musician is about authenticity and relatability. My goal has always been to make others feel like they’re not alone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were to take a best friend around Phoenix, I’d first take them to Harumi sushi downtown. They have the BEST sushi in the city. Then I’d take them to the Papago’s for a nice hike in the morning a day later, and maybe hit up The Vig for an awesome lunch afterwards. I also have to give a shoutout to Rice Paper in Phoenix… best pho and spring rolls around. I’m a big foodie if you can’t tell. At some point though, I’d take them to Encanto Park for a relaxing evening stroll and maybe pick up some ice cream at The Yard afterwards!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutouts are my teachers and mentors: my parents, Nicki Park, Lee Perreira, Gretchen Spain, & Mario Yniguez.
