We had the good fortune of connecting with Juliana Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juliana, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I truly do not believe that giving up is ever an option. Success is great and all, but learning truly happens when you fail. I look forward to failure, just as I do success, as that means there are lessons to be learned. While failure is where you learn, perseverance is when you prosper.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a senior in college at the University of Hawaii. I originally started my collegiate journey in Arizona, but after the pandemic hit my heart felt called to the islands. I was raised part-time in Hawaii so it had just made sense that I would end up back in a place that had raised me.
When moving here, I vowed to myself to pursue life outside of the normal college experience. I had already done that, the party lifestyle wasn’t for me and I craved a life of value. In this, I began to befriend local Hawaiians and got heavily involved with surfing. My initial love for surfing grew into a relationship with the ocean, and the next thing I know I am managing a professional longboarder from Waikiki. What started out as two friends just messing around, turned into a potential career. In pursuit of professional development, I began to start my own management firm catered to surfers from Oahu, Hawaii. There was and still is a need for representation as major companies within the surf industry tend to overlook and overwork the individuals working for them.
In addition to this, I strive to pursue a creative and active lifestyle and am often looking for any way to survive while doing the things I love. I surf every single day as well as participate in hot yoga classes. I additionally am highly motivated by nutrition, aiding the local community here in Oahu, and promoting self-love and body positivity on my social media platforms. The one thing I fear in this life is building a career where I am counting down the days to retirement. I want to create a career where I never want to quit because I am doing what I love.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being born and raised in Arizona, I have a couple of favorite spots in mind. My absolute favorite restaurant if you’re into something a bit more casual is Tocaya. But for a night out, I always try to go somewhere where the food is an art form, lately, a favorite of mine has been Maple and Ash. I would hang out by the pool or if the weather allows hikes. But, my favorite thing to do is watch the sunset on Phoenix South Mountain. There are so many beautiful local spots, but, gotta catch it when it’s not summer. An absolute must is Camelback Mountain-Echo Canyon, and no matter what time of year, bring plenty of water!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be the woman I am today without the support of my mother. She has always encouraged me to dream big and pursue my passions. While she has promoted the heart that drives my driven and compassionate mindset, I am additionally graced with the inspiration of an entrepreneurial father. My parents combined have offered me support, knowledge, and insight to help drive me to be a creator in the world I live in at the age of twenty-one.
