Meet Julie Vo | Owner, Julie’s Nails Tempe

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Vo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was previously a teacher. After immigrating to the United States, I saw how many Americans had their own businesses and lived a lifestyle that was most suitable for them. My siblings began opening their own businesses, and I wanted to follow their path and open my own business. Having your own business grants you independence from other managing sources and lets you work how you want to work.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Julie’s Nails is located in Tempe, adjacent to Tempe Town Lake. Our priority is customer satisfaction. A nail salon is technically part of the “beauty” industry, but every nail technician is providing a service. If the service is not up to the customer’s standard, potential customers will be notified of the issues and it may negatively impact the business. If a customer is satisfied, potential customers will hear of the excellent work, and that will draw people in for the business. In the end, ensuring that Julie’s Nails provides excellent service to all of its customers will ensure success.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting, of course I would have to take them to my salon, Julie’s Nails. I’d treat them to whatever services they like: manicure, pedicure, and waxing! After, we’d stroll along Tempe Town Lake and then pop over for dinner at Pho Chandler, one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in the Phoenix area. For the rest of the time, we’d relax by the pool and get in some local exploring like visiting Scottsdale Fashion Square, Hole-in-the-Rock at Papago Park, and maybe even walk through the Desert Botanical Garden.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my friends and family for all the support I have received in the process of opening my salon. I have worked at other nail salons in the past and decided that I wanted to start my own business after seeing my brothers and sisters opening up their own businesses. I’ve seen work environments that haven’t always been the best, so I wanted to create a space that was welcoming and inclusive for all. I saw my siblings were able to define their own organizations and had freedom in their lifestyles after their businesses were established. With my experience at other salons, I wanted to create a space at Julie’s Nails for other nail technicians to learn and grow.
