We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
If resilience is a habit, I feel like that has helped me the most. Life is full of ups and downs and it is not a linear path towards better outcome and success. Business is the same way. I’ve failed more than I’ve succeeded, but with resilience I am able to see success even through the failure.
Another habit is daily creative thinking. I always spend some time away from the busy day to plan and think of creative ways to enhance my service and or how I serve. Down time to creatively think is imperative to a successful and robust business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is called Humble Lifters Training. I help novice (first time) bodybuilders prepare for their first competition and place top 3 in their very first show. I am still an active competitor and student of the sport and I believe what sets me apart from many coaches in the industry is the personal connection I build with each and every one of my clients. I am with them every step of the way of the journey. I compete with them, I train with them, I learn with them, I grow with them.
My business is nowhere where I envision it being in terms of broad term success, but I am in a perfect position to grow. Success in the fitness industry is by no way easy. It is unfiltered and saturated and what you need to stand out may go against your God given morals. But I stayed true to providing exceptional service through learning and understanding each client’s needs and always using the telescope to see where they as individuals want to be in the future.
I have learned that you cannot succeed in business without people. Therefore, people or customers, are the most important asset of any operating business. That is why I overemphasize the importance of creating my brand around the uplifting of others. I want the world to know that fitness should be a part of their lives, but fitness without team and or community is dead. Having a coach, mentor, or team is the way to stimulate growth in opportunistic ways.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First and foremost I would take them to all local hikes. I absolutely love nature and most of my friends do as well. I’d take them to Piestewa Peak and Dreamy Draw and as far as the Sedona and the Grand Canyon. If it was Football season, I would take them to an Arizona Cardinals game and if it were basketball, a Suns game. After the games, at night, we would visit Old Town Scottsdale and venture out into the night life of beautiful Arziona.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes. One being research literature – Be Your Own Bodybuilding Coach by Dr. Scott Stevenson PhD. I’d like to credit much of my recent success in understanding of bodybuilding science to this research. I’ve Coached myself and multiple other athletes using the methods and scientific research from the literature.
As far as my success in business, I’d like to credit first and foremost my Mother. My Mother instilled much of my entrepreneurial spirit in me. When Kyle and I were young, she would place us in summer business camps to develop our business understanding and acumen. When I was 12, I operated my first profitable business with the help of my Mother. Every business I ever opened after that my Mother was involved in some way. Finding lawyer, accounting, teaching. She was my helping hand in believing in myself and self-creation.
Another credit will go to IFCA, Impact Fitness Coaching Academy. I enrolled in this Academy to learn how to increase sales through greater service. With the increase in sales, I’ve increased my understanding of my niche, who I am as a coach, and best of all, how to serve others like I would like to be served myself.
