We had the good fortune of connecting with Kai Storm and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kai, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in Panama but raised in Brooklyn New York therefore that makes me very spicy, on top of the fact that my natural DNA adds a dash of confidence in self and major attitude if tested; the best way to describe how my background and upbringing impact who I am today is “Good energy! I don’t need any negativity around me….because when it slides through, I unleash and spread out like a beach towel!”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I discovered way back in 7th grade that writing was one of my many talents but it wasn’t until I became a grown woman that I decided to actually pen a novel. Furthermore, I came to that decision after I showed a friend snippets of a story I wrote and they encouraged me to finish it. Finishing that first novel lead me to seek a publisher and while the transition from naïve to a well seasoned and knowledgeable author did have a bit of twist and turns, I appreciated the trip as it taught me a lot. I started thinking about myself as a business/brand and by watching others, I was able to create my own ways to promote my brand/business and I learned over time, how to grow my brand/business and the best ways to protect it. One thing I want the world to know about my story is that all I want to do is leave a mark that can never be forgotten!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well in this case, I can tell you about the last time Ruby was in NYC…first, we hit the bodega on Fulton Ave and we had our first chopped cheese sandwich! I said “we” because even though I live here, I’ve never had one. It was actually good, I was surprised. The next day, we went to the nail salon on Pitkin Ave for the official nail set done by my favorite nail girl Sunny. As soon as the shellac was dry, we hit the Rainbow Shop so that Ruby could get her NYC shopping on and from there, we hit the soul food restaurant for the bomb *ss fried chicken, potato salad and corn bread. Once our bellies were full, we indulged in two heavily rolled marijuana joints then headed to the Jamaican Jerk spot outside of Broadway Junction train station for the best jerk chicken and rice & peas!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
