We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaili Killingsworth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaili, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Living in the social media age, my interest was always peaked by the “influencer” lifestyle. But that life seemed unattainable unless you looked a certain way or lived in a popular area. In my day-to-day life I naturally share what I like and dislike with friends and family, what skincare or house cleaning products I am using, and clothes I ‘m buying, and decided that I could become a relatable resource for my community by using my trusted relationships, without having to be aesthetic. One day, I had an epiphany, being an influencer isn’t about getting free stuff; but these people are truly entrepreneurs who are monetizing their role as a resource and inspiration for their community.

There’s been a shift in attitude and strategy towards micro-influencing, focusing on real people who use real things that they love and work for them. Affiliate marketing continues to grow year over and year and you don’t need a large following to be a part of it. I naturally share my travel, food, clothes, skincare, and cleaning products with my friends and family, so why do that for free? I love continuing to grow and scale my business, brand, and community every day by being relatable and authentic, sharing products and recommendations with everyday consumers who have real concerns and needs.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Building a business is hard. It requires hard work, dedication, consistency, discipline and grit to see success because most of the time, it doesn’t happen overnight. I simultaneously sell skincare and wellness products while building a wholistic social brand around my persona. To be successful in both of these lines of effort I have used my relationships, trust with my community, focused on fillings gaps or meeting needs, and being relatable and authentic through it all. Not only do you need to be passionate about what you’re doing, but keeping the end goal in mind is critical. I want a life that provides for my family, gives me the flexibility to do what I want, AND brings people joy or relief from harder parts of life. Picturing that end state fuels motivation to continue to show up and put in the time it takes to do outreach, develop marketing and communications materials, learn about products, etc.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love Phoenix! There are so many things to do in and around the city, you can never get bored. For friends and family that want to visit I always take them to a few favorite spots:

We love going to Joyride tacos, Federal Pizza, or Pane Bianco on Central Ave in north central neighborhood for lunch/happy hours when they arrive the from the airport. If it’s the weekend, then brunch is a must and there is no better place than Matt’s Big Breakfast downtown or Luci’s at the Orchard. Both spots are family-friendly with Luci’s even having an outdoor water fountain for littles on to play in during the summer.

Phoenix has amazing weather for many parts of the year so outdoor activities are a must, I take all of our guests to McDowell Sonoran Preserve for hiking, the Desert Botanical Gardens to stroll through the incredible desert plants native to our region, and the Uptown Farmers Market if it’s a Saturday to check out so many local vendors proudly selling their craft (looking at you Toffee Merchant!) A stroll down Phoenix’s historic bridle path while gazing at the incredible homes on Central Ave is also a favorite for our guests.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so thankful for my husband for being my biggest supporter. He has fully embraced my taking on a creative lifestyle in addition to working a routine 9-5, raising our 19month old, and training our new puppy. He truly is a supportive partner and teammate in all aspects of life and his encouragement, tough love, and extra dish washing allow me to continue to build my business and brand.
