We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaneka Trotter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaneka, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always been an “entrepreneur” since i was a young girl. I used to do various things such as sell candy out of my home when i was in the 3rd grade to braiding my peers hair in the 6th/7th grade to babysitting, tutoring and multiple other business ventures to now I have Ageless Connections LLC and being a licensed realtor are my most thriving empires thus far.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my company is Ageless Connections LLC. It is a comprehensive service dedicated to the senior/geriatric population. Ageless Connections serves seniors that need assistance in various ways from placement “relocation” to the appropriate places depending on likes, needs, wants, desires while also taking into consideration of their healthcare needs and finances. The consultant will interview or assess the client and family with wants and needs, and our seasoned professionals find the appropriate places. Places can be: Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care Facilities, Senior care homes, and even behavioral sites if needed. In addition to placing clients Ageless Connections owner Kaneka N. Trotter is a licensed realtor that can help sell a property if needed for placement to occur to assist with the cost of living and care. With many additional partnerships referrals for multiple services are given such as: Home Care, Home health, Elder Law Attorneys, Financial planners, Movers, etc. making Ageless Connections LLC a one stop organization to assist with the navigation of change for the senior community.
Was it Easy? Absolutely Not…one day I will write a book about how Ageless Connections LLC got started. Thankfully I am known in this industry as a hard worker and that has gotten me into rooms to get business completed to make Ageless Connections what it is today. Lots of people want the success but you have to put in the work. I still work 16-18 hours days most days, and people don’t realize that is a part of wanting to build anything successful…….put in the time.
Lessons I’ve learned along the way is to stay true to yourself. Be coachable, take positive criticism, work hard, but stay true to what makes you uniquely you. Not everyone will like you, and that is ok. Trust your instincts and if it doesn’t feel right, then get out or away from it. I cant tell you how many times I’ve missed “bad deals” when I’ve trusted my instinct vs going against it.
What do I want the world to know about me is that I LOVE loud. Those close to me understand me thoroughly and my love for them is deep. Ageless Connections is something I LOVE. The sacrifice, dedication, time, and constant nurturing of loving a company that serves a population that raised you and that you admired. People who have known me since I was a child understand my love of seniors didn’t start recently. The passion to protect them has always been part of my journey starting with my relationship with my own grandparents. Every client I serve I make sure to handle with the most professional courtesy and dignity even in the most difficult of situations. My grandparents all taught me its about communication and “how you speak” and I am always mindful of what needs to be said and how.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Arizona is a beautiful state so that is truly hard to dedicate one city here, but my bestie deserves to definitely feel luxury and Scottsdale, Arizona definitely has several resorts to choose from for a wonderful experience. I would make sure that we booked a full spa package and then get some wonderful eats at wonderful places such as Chic Chef 77 Wind Bar in Tempe, Hula’s Modern Tiki at Desert Ridge is always a fun experience. I am a lover of seafood so Pappadeaux Seafood restaurant is always a must. Since Arizona is beautiful 9 months out of the year there is always a festival and we would definitely find one or several.
Most people who truly know me do know that I love just being home sometimes, because I am always working when I have the opportunity to truly relax that also include just reading, and laying in a hammock to get some sun. Game nights, family movies, and just talking is so important to relationships so I do make sure that I make time to connect and just be.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of all GOD is the source of all things that I do. Without him, there is no me.
My grandparents also my biggest influences in how I approached the world, My paternal grandmother Catherine Trotter was a teacher and due to her love of education and encouragement I am a continuous lover of learning, reading, and education. I thank her for always keeping education a priority in my life. She passed away my freshmen year of high school, but had already instilled such a vital importance in me. My maternal grandmother Laverne Nadine Gordon was my “person” although not formally educated higher than a high school diploma her knowledge about life and navigating this world gave me a beautiful balance of understanding this worlds journeys and the difficulties faced, with also being smart enough to navigate it well. She loved with her whole heart and I admire her journey in all of its flaws.
Lastly, my children are a HUGE reason why I continue to be a change maker and excel at my goals.
Being a teen mom I was truly doubted by many to even make it, but I promised my son at birth to make him proud and I stand by that promise daily. My daughter, and youngest son also got the same promise. My goal is to show them that now matter the journey and obstacles you can always succeed with hard work, education, and focus. Resilience is an option.
