Meet Kate Ross | Personal Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kate, what do you attribute your success to?
Paying attention, and I mean, to ALL the information, not just their words, that my client is telling me during our closet edits or personal styling sessions. By observing their posture, watching their facial expressions, hearing the stories behind some of their items, and taking note, I can get to know who they are and what they want to represent through their clothes. For my clients to be “seen” for themselves and feel the power and confidence that comes from that is incredibly important to my success as a stylist.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I work with my clients, I listen to the different aspects of their life that concern them while getting dressed, which we all do at least 1 time a day! To take some of the pressure off of deciding what to wear to a meeting, a date, a trip to the park with your toddler to meet new friends, an event for your partners work, etc allows my clients more time for the things that are important in their life. In addition to feeling confident in your clothes, wearing styles that fit your life, the amount of money you have spent on them, the appropriateness for the occasion also makes them feel good in their decisions. When I shop for clients, I follow their budget and comfort level and never try and get them to buy something they are not comfortable with. I do that by purchasing clothes directly from retailers and pass that exact amount on to my clients, I am compensated based on my time, so how much they spend on clothing is only relevant to them.
Explaining that I am a Personal Stylist comes with it’s share of preconceived notions that at times are apparent by a look or lack of follow up questions. Getting across the importance of feeling good in what you wear is much more than vanity. There is so much value to self esteem, confidence and a general positive outlook that is shared with the others in your life when you feel like you look like a true representative of whats inside.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This question is an easy one as I am a creature of habit!! When I like something, I tend to revisit it for years, with that said, my favs are all very local to our neighborhood of Bay Park. Coffee is Bay Park coffee, delicious and I love to sit outside. Our neighborhood restaurant Luce is where I take all my favorite people. Their Salmon and Black Rice in Curry I have at least 3 times a month, they have great drinks and the staff and environment are top notch! Hiking in Tecolote canyon is beautiful in the late afternoon, full of indigenous plants and trees. And of course the beaches, Del Mar and Coronado are gorgeous year round and its’ always lovely to walk in the sand.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Bill has always been the most positive sounding board, my biggest cheerleader, brain stormer, and overall light in my life that leads me to fulfill this passion of mine and be able to share it with my clients.
