We had the good fortune of connecting with Katherine Reedy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katherine, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
We only get so many moments in life, and trying to fit all the meaningful ones into evenings, weekends and two weeks vacation a year wasn’t cutting it for me.

Achieving greater balance in my life was a big motivation for starting Rebel Daughter Public Relations, and it’s why I’m selective about the projects and clients I take on. I’ve set boundaries and stuck to my principles, and in doing so built balance into my life.

Work now feels joyful, satisfying and energizing. My days include work, but they also include fitness, friendships, travel, creativity, cooking, live music, happy hours, daydreaming, free time, family, and so much more. Work no longer eclipses any other facet of my life; it all gets equal billing. That’s balance to me.

What should our readers know about your business?

I’ve learned so much about myself throughout this journey.

I think there’s a large degree of bravery (and maybe foolishness) required to start a business.

There have been moments over the past two years when I’ve thought to myself, “this isn’t going to work, I need to go back to a more traditional 9-5.”

Now I think back on those moments, when the fear crept in, and I’m so grateful I found the courage to keep going. To look fear in face and say, not today.

I’ve learned that entrepreneurship requires bravery, and the surest way to fail is to stop trying.

My advice for others: it’s ok to be scared, do the thing anyways.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of the things I love best about Arizona is our incredible music scene, so seeing live music would be a key part of any visit. There are amazing shows taking place every night of the week all throughout the Valley, but some of my favorite places to catch live music are Rockbar in Old Town Scottsdale and Last Exit Live in downtown Phoenix.

When we weren’t listening to live music, we’d be eating and drinking our way through the countless incredible restaurants in the area. We’d grab lunch at Jade Bar at Sanctuary, happy hour at Wine Girl Scottsdale and dinner at Toca Madera. After, we’d meet up with friends at Old Town Tavern for a nightcap and some live music.

And, a visit to The Phoenician Resort is a must; we’d spend the morning relaxing at the spa and then enjoy Afternoon Tea in their lobby.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a special shoutout to my mom, Judy. She’s been an amazing source of support and inspiration for me all my life, and especially during this most recent chapter.

While I’ve spent that past couple years managing a business, she’s been planning for retirement after a long and successful career.

I had the honor of being present for her retirement celebration, where her colleagues spoke about the positive impact she’s had on them. They expressed gratitude for many things, including her patience, hard work, consideration, support and kindness.

It came as no surprise, because she’s demonstrated those same qualities throughout my life. But, I was still taken aback listening to the expressions of appreciation because for the first time, I saw the extent of the impact she’s had on others.

She hasn’t just been a support system for our family, she’s also been one for countless other people. Judy deserves all the shoutouts.
