We had the good fortune of connecting with kaycee duncab and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi kaycee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was excitement and a little bit of fear. I was afraid to fail, but I didn’t let that stop me from creating the business of my dreams. I started my business 2 years ago when I started nail school at Mj Nailz Academy. I had no idea how much I was going to enjoy nails and it was the best decision in my life to start this career. After graduating I realized I wanted to work towards opening my own salon. It started with finding a building, then figuring out what I wanted to do with the space, and finally it all coming together and opening in April of 2023! Starting my own business has been the best thing and I wouldn’t have changed a single thing that got me to where I am now!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Doing nail is my passion, it’s a way of expressing myself and it is very rewarding! Seeing how happy people are to walk out with beautiful nails makes everything worth it! It definitely hasn’t been easy getting to where I am now, but with the help of my amazing support system they helped push me to never give up. One lesson I learned and believe is very important is to never give up even when things get hard. The most amazing things that happen in life are NEVER easy and it takes a lot of drive and determination to continue when things get hard. My brand is my heart, and my passion 🩷

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Tucson has a lot of hidden gems! If I had to plan a trip for someone out here I would definitely include the Biosphere 2, Desert Museum, and all of the amazing hiking trails throughout the entire town! When it comes to food, you definitely have to try Tucsons very own Eegees, they have amazing sandwiches and have super refreshing slushy drinks. We also have amazing food trucks that you can find everywhere!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my shout out to my family, my boyfriend, and my instructor Mj! My family and my other half were there every step of the way and I couldn’t have done it without them! Mj was my mentor through it all and she pushed me in school to be the best version of myself and guided me along opening my own salon!
