Meet Kecia Beasley Lindsey | Spanish and English Instructor & Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kecia Beasley Lindsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kecia, how does your business help the community?
My business helps the community or the world by challenging people to learn English and Spanish so they can communicate effectively in today’s global society. As well, I want my students to be able to be bilingual, to be able to utilize English and Spanish in their profession formally and also informally in their daily routines, like going to the grocery store, post office and pharmacy. Many Americans desire to travel to Mexico, Central America, South America and Spain and want to have more authentic, meaningful interactions with Hispanic and Ibero-American peoples so they can learn first hand about the language and culture of Latin America. My business assists in these milestones, building confidence and competence to speak and write English and Spanish proficiently.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently a high school Spanish Teacher teaching at the Academies at South Mountain High School. I love teaching Spanish to my students. I am most proud of preparing my students to bridge the gap between high school and the college levels through connecting the disciplines of history, language and culture, literature and film. I express to them constantly that they are competing in a global society and that they must become bilingual. I tell them If you earn English and Spanish, it will open doors of opportunities for you professionally and culturally.
I teach with this passion every day. I make my lessons relevant, meaningful and purposeful. For example, I challenge my students to practice having a dialogue in Spanish with the sale’s clerk at the local Ranch Market grocery store, and to also go to a local, Hispanic restaurant and order a meal in Spanish. In this way, I express and emphasize – you are building the capacity for yourselves to speak in your second language and you will be proud of yourself that you are able to begin connecting to the Hispanic Community here in Phoenix. I tell my students, the next milestone is to travel to Latin America and really immerse yourself in the language even if it is for four days or a week. The goal again is to challenge yourself to go beyond what you think you can do.
So, you might ask what sets me apart from others? I decided two write two books, when many of my colleagues thought I was taking on too much. It is true as an educator I am tired after a day’s work, but something happened and clicked in me during Covid in 2020. It was then that most educators had to give lessons to students on line. It was then I told myself, there is no excuse now. You can start writing a Spanish book for people to learn Spanish. So, everyday I prayed that I could work 3 hours a day (after I finished my on-line classes) on the “Spanish Binder for Children and Adults”. It took me a total of 200 hours to produce the Spanish binder. Fast forward to 2025, this binder has been turned into a new book I just released through Barnes & Noble called, “Spanish in the Bag”. I also published it’s counterpart this February called, “English in the Bag”. I think it is the drive and passion of knowing Spanish and English that keeps me going, driving me and it is this passion that I want to share with the world.
It was in 2024, I decided to rebrand my previous tutoring business, “Beasley Translations” to “EnglishandSpanish2you.com. I felt I wanted to share my brand with the Phoenix Community and social media because this brand really speaks to what I really want to do-provide a space where students can learn English or Spanish in a non-rigid environment and where they can have fun exploring the details of the grammar and culture and applying their knowledge of this as they move from beginning to intermediate to advanced levels. I committed to helping my students become bilingual.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever. I would take them to the following places:
Morning Hike: South Mountain Park,
Brunch: Morning Squeeze, Scottsdale, AZ
Hangout: Scottsdale Fashion Square – taken in the beauty of our Phoenix international culture-shop and have coffee
Evening: Paradise Valley Blue Martini to listen to the band Renaissance sing and play Jazz and R&B
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shout out to my mentor, Ayesha Hassan. She encouraged me to follow my dreams of starting my own business, EnglishandSpanish2you.com. Every step of the way, I would share my vision for my company with her and my desire to write my two books, “Spanish in the Bag” and “English in the Bag”. The way she listened to my thoughts, passion and my mission to create a space for students to learn English and Spanish so they could feel confident, empowered me. She would tell me, “I think people will love taking English and Spanish lessons from you, and you will break down their anxiety and make them feel confident to learn from you because you have so much patience.” Her words constantly echo in my mind and I keep these words sacred and close to me because this is how I want to reach people, with patience, warmth and trust.
