Meet Keith Obit | Actor/Writer/Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Keith Obit and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keith, what principle do you value most?
Ego Death. This is very important when creating a team that is about to make a film. Some people are willing to put in the work and others like to let their egos run wild. Someone who has an understanding of ego death generally has empathy and is willing to put the art first, not their stardom. Since filmmaking is such a collaborative process, there is no room for any of this. The best idea always has to win and when you surround yourself with like-minded individuals who are all on the same page, the artistic venture will speak for itself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an Actor, Writer, Director, and the host of a podcast called “The Bogcast. I am also the owner of Astrobit Studios, a fully operational production studio with some exciting commercials and short films coming out soon! Everything can be found at www.keithobit.com
I am most proud of my writing and directorial debut of my new film “The Soundguy”. I was able to bring such a talented group of individuals, from the cast to the crew, and create some really funny content. After 2 years of writing and some intense Pre-Production, we started shooting the project in early October of 2021 and finished principal photography in mid-January 2022. We currently just finished Post Production, with the project being submitted to Film Festivals. Pitch Meetings are coming soon!
What sets me apart from others is that I am not trying to “make it” nor do I put a timeline on it as most actors/directors do. I do it because I thoroughly enjoy and love it. As long as I am working creatively, I am happy. I do not care about being “famous”. Most people I know care more about being famous than the art itself.
Filmmaking , like most things, is problem solving with an endless amount of challenges. This is part of the process. To be successful, you have to learn how to deal with all the challenges and struggles. It is very easy to just give up, especially in a world of constant rejection. I have also realized that with every struggle, as long as you can power through it, something bigger and better always comes from it. Just don’t give up and always stick to your gut.
Also, surround yourself with caring and ambitious people. As soon as I stopped being around negative people with 24-7 drama, I thrived. You shouldn’t waste any of your time with these people.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First off, I would make sure that they only come out in the winter. Even after almost 40 years of living in Maricopa County, I still cannot get used to the heat. On the other hand, the winters here are AMAZING. There is a reason why we have so many “winter birds” that live here. Literally any outdoor activity is on the table with an endless amount of fun. One of my favorite things to do is take the dogs hiking to many of the awesome spots we have either for sunrise or sundown, because the skies here are just beautiful. It’s literally a photographers dream.
If you are into music and museums, then the Muscial Instrument Museum is a must! It’s the largest museum of its type in the world. They have of over 15,000 musical instruments from nearly 200 countries and territories. When I went with my dad, we were lucky to see John Lennon’s piano he wrote “Imagine” on. It was so cool!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a Shoutout to my amazing and beautiful girlfriend Jorden. She has supported me and my crazy acting/filmmaking adventures since the early days, and has been there through all of the ups and downs. I can honestly say if it wasn’t for her, I would definitely not be where I am right now. She is very artistic herself, and it is a blessing to have someone to bounce ideas off of, especially when I am writing. There honestly isn’t enough room in this article for me to explain how much she has done for me. I am extremely lucky to have her and I couldn’t imagine my world without her. Thanks for everything babe…I love you!
Also…Shoutout to my to Huskies! Nothing better than coming home after a long day to the most loving and sweetest dogs in the world.
