We had the good fortune of connecting with Kellie Carlton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kellie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I have been in the fitness industry to 27 years and have been a trainer for 22 years and have trained 4000 plus clients from age 9 to 92. I can train all ages but work primarily with the 50 and over age group doing corrective exercise and allowing my clients to regain their balance and live a healthy active lifestyle. I work with and have helped people that have arthritis, scoliosis, osteoporosis, strokes, parkinsons, heart issues, mental disabilities, hearing impaired, visually impaired, knee and hip replacements, diabetes, and back issues. I also help my clients with reducing their weight and body composition through program design and nutritional consultation. I think the most important factor behind my success is when I first started in the industry I worked at supplement stores and learned the education about sports supplementation and nutrition which has helped throughout my career with custom programs for my clients, I also work with the whole person, it’s not just the physical, but mental too. I’m an empathic person and can understand people and that’s where I can custom tailor to their individual needs, I train every person.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like doing creative things and personal training is a creative outlet. I get to work with all different types of people and help them solve individual problems, and that’s where working one on one I enjoy. If I have 10 different client’s goals in a day it’s always a challenge and never boring. I get to work with psychology, anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, and physiology. By helping other people I also become understanding of my own condition having cervical dystonia, which is a muscle and nerve condition of the neck. We share ideas, they help me and I help them. It creates community. I am most proud of my ability to be a versatile trainer and can think quickly on my feet. I can train anyone of any age, whether it’s sports specific or a health condition. Challenges I have had along the way is I have worked for gyms that went out of business multiple times when I was employed with them with no notice and had to establish myself at a new gym. I’m a people person, I enjoy helping others and enjoy feelings of accomplishments at the end of the day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely have a friend visiting the area come in the fall or spring! The state is beautiful this time of year. We would spend the day in Oak Creek Canyon, and then go to Sedona and stay a night or two at a B and B before heading to the Grand Canyon to go hiking and see all the tourist attractions. On the way back we would go to the botanical garden and do some sight seeing.. We would also stop at quite a few Mexican restaurants along the trip too, the spicier the better!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate Shoutout to my Honey who is my biggest supporter and rock. He makes me a better person and believes in me 100%. Also to my clients who work hard to get results and change their lives for the better. I am just the guide, they are the ones doing the work and succeeding! In this story I am showcasing 3 dedicated clients. My client Harlan is a 10 year old student and basketball player who came to me wanting to get stronger, be faster and have more endurance for his sport. My client Kacey is 39 years old, she is a stay at home mom who knows the importance of taking care of herself, she is leaner and stronger and has more energy to be active with her kids. My client Steve is 67 years old and is a pilot. He has lost 65 lbs. and told me recently he feels in the best shape of his life. He also has much better balance and energy. These 3 people have shown perseverance, dedication and hard work and are achieving their goals because of it. They are my inspiration!
