We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Leal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelsey, what do you attribute your success to?
Some of the most important factors behind the success of Kelsium Beauty, is the passion, will power, and drive to be a leading brand in the industry. When you love what you do, naturally you want to be the best you can be. It’s important to never stop learning and to never stop practicing. Repetition is the key to becoming confident in your business and your skillset.

With my determination and commitment to growth, I have quickly built one of the fastest growing makeup and event hairstyling companies in Arizona. Awarded number one for best makeup & hairstyling companies in Scottsdale, Arizona for 2023 by WeddingRule & top 5 out of 18 for best makeup/hair in Phoenix, Arizona.

My goal is to continue growing and expanding Kelsium, while staying true to our core values of excellence, passion, and dedication to helping our clients look and feel their best!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would say what sets Kelsium apart from other competition is our passion. My team and I love what we do, and that is without a doubt reflected in our level of service and artistry. We take pride in our work and strive to exceed our clients’ expectations.

I am most proud of our recent studio expansion. To fill you in, I founded Kelsium in 2020, a luxury makeup & event hairstyling company based in North Scottsdale, Arizona. When I wasn’t working onsite, I would take clients out of my home studio. In July of 2022, I signed for my first room and shared the space with another business. In July of 2023, that business moved out of state and I took ownership over the entire studio. We did a complete transformation of the space, turning it into a luxury beauty destination!

I was able to get to where I’m at today by believing in myself and never giving up. I’m not one to follow a traditional lifestyle. When I enrolled in college, I quickly realized it wasn’t the route for me. I’m a creator at heart and once I began working in the beauty industry with Chanel, I quickly realized this was just the beginning.

My journey has been anything, but easy. It takes a lot of hard work, time, and dedication to not only build a successful brand, but to be an exceptional artist. I’ve been able to overcome the challenges of being a business owner by surrounding myself with good people and spending my free time doing things I love, like being in nature!

I’ve been fortunate to learn many valuable lessons along the way. One of the most important being, to not let fear stand in your way. You have to be willing to take risks and step outside your comfort zone. Only then can you know your true power and strengths.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s tons of amazing spots to have a good time in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. My all time favorite restaurant to take my friends is, SumoMaya. I also love to grab a coffee at Light Heart!

When people are visiting we try to hit as many nature spots as possible! There’s so many hidden gems all over Arizona. Some of our favorite places to visit are Sedona, Canyon Lake, and the Superstition Mountains.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The number one person who comes to mind is my boyfriend, Ben. From the moment we met, he has always believed in my dreams. Sometimes all we need is that one person. Thank you for pushing me to be the best I can possibly be! To buying my first professional makeup brush set, and ultimately supporting me starting Kelsium Beauty. You have been on this journey with me every step of the way, I couldn’t be more grateful. Without your love and constant support, none of this is possible!

To my mom, you’ve always supported my different forms of artistry, which ultimately lead to my passion for beauty. You would always get me the latest arts and crafts supplies, because you knew how much I loved to create. Thank you for encouraging the girly girl in me! I’ve always had a love for makeup and getting ready, and to now be able to do what I love for a living is a dream come true.

My best friend, Emily. You have been a huge believer in my dreams. I remember like it was yesterday, 7 years ago, sitting in my apartment practicing your makeup just to take it all off because I was hard on myself. Now I sit here today doing some of my proudest work for your special events. Thank you for being apart of this journey from the very beginning!
