Meet Kendall Christensen | Owner/Partner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendall Christensen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendall, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Oh boy where to begin with this one… There are so many misunderstood facets to what makes a great detailer or Detail company. There is also a general misrepresentation about what detailing even is. It’s thought of commonly as a glorified “car wash.” A truly good detailer is a craftsman and an artist as much as a strong laborer or intensive cleaner. It requires incredible mental as well as physical stamina. It requires a continuous thinking process that as as mentally rigorous as anything. To ensure that a meticulous and technical process is followed perfectly, it really is an art that not just anybody who’s willing is capable. You cannot skip steps in this process to get the best result. You must have the patience to see the whole thing through without trying to hurry things along or get ahead of yourself. You have to have an eye for what is wrong and experience through many projects to know what to do to remedy it. It requires observation at an incredibly granular level. The payoff is after we finish the project and that amazing satisfaction that comes from knowing you followed that meticulous process to the end. In the end you made an impact that anyone can then see and appreciate. I think people automatically assume that detailing is just a deep clean and nothing more. We get excited to show them how much more than that we do!

What should our readers know about your business?
At Desert Steam Detail we are brothers and a true family / craft business. We all have different strengths and experience in the industry and as small local business men at different levels. We live by 3 primary components to our service: Clean, restore and protect. I think it’s well understood that cleaning is part of it across the industry but there isn’t a lot of common knowledge around the restoration and protection components. That is where our craft really has a chance to shine and people can start to appreciate that we don’t do anything without very specific purpose. It’s a challenge because there is so much educating involved in our industry but it’s a fun challenge for us to get a chance to show people the technical nature of our trade.
We are Desert Steam Detail because our service is all premium steam based detailing. This saves gallons of water, cuts chemical usage down to a fraction of normal and does a way better and more thorough job! My favorite part is that by the time the detail is finished it’s all dry instead of having a musty wet interior for the rest of the day.
We not only do cars/trucks/SUVs but we are Detail and restoration coating specialists for RV’s and Boats. We can take fiberglass gel coats (most RVs and all boats) that are oxidized, dry and sun baked and restore them to brand new looking with our specialized polyurethane transformation service. We absolutely love working with RV and Boat owners and helping make these people’s asset the best it can possibly be!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We love food and restaurants and I must say Arizona has really good food. If a friend came to town we’d hit the best restaurants in town. You can’t really miss in the Scottsdale, Arcadia area especially. North Itália, the Henry, lá grand orange, tacos sahuaro, cook and craft, lá Fonda del sol to name just a few of our favorites that we could hit. How can you come to Arizona without eating great Mexican food so we’d definitely do that more than once. Also events. We enjoy professional sporting events which Phoenix has all 4 major sports so there is always something to see there. We are also big golfers and this place is golf paradise so I imagine at least one or two tee times would be involved. Perhaps a few outdoor activities like hiking and sight seeing. Skipping over to Sedona or flagstaff is easy and great to drive and see the different areas of the desert and forests here. Maybe a night out at one of the many casino/resorts for some cards. Wekopa is nice and newly renovated one is like to hang out at. There we could play golf, swim and play cards in the same day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is a family business of brothers at the end of the day. How could we not shout our appreciation for friends and family. We had somewhat of a unique upbringing. Although a divorced home from when we were very young, we had very good and very different influences in our life. Both our parents had careers that required a lot of travel. We wound up staying with a lot of different families input extended family and friends circle at different times who helped take us in. It allowed us to observe so many different perspectives and family cultures. The culture at our home was open and honest. We had freedom to express ourselves and our opinions. empowered and confident, passionate and motivated. Didn’t come without challenges but we are definitely thankful for each other and our family and friends as a whole.
