We had the good fortune of connecting with Keven Dubreil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keven, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We have a passion for CrossFit, and just about anyone and everyone can do it, no matter the limitations. So when the opportunity arose we jumped on it. In 30 days we went from nothing to having the property, and in a 1 day turn around we outfitted the gym from Keys in hand to Opening day!

What should our readers know about your business?
Starting a CrossFit gym is difficult if you don’t have a good base that are in need of it. This is my second Gym. I opened my first 4 years ago. And that one was as you can an imagine a whirlwind through Covid, losing over 60% revenue. Unsure if we’d make it to the other side. To succeed in a gym you need to set expectations for your team, if you have one, if not for yourself. You can’t relax for a second. Since this is my second gym I had a lead going into this one with the marketing which helped tremendously to grow us to where we are today. 6 months into business and we’re at a place I was with my first gym at the end of year 2. CrossFit Efferent is a place anyone can come and train, we coach athletes as young as 16 and as old as 70, some with more limitations than others. And as coaches striving for more knowledge only makes you a better coach for them. We have 6 classes a day to fit anyone’s work schedule starting at 5am every day and finishing at 5:30pm every night.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
All my friends workout so obviously we’ll be making frequent trips to the gym, at least once a day. I really enjoy Arizona’s northern cities and landscapes so taking strip to Sedona or Prescott, maybe even go cliff jumping at some lakes or creeks. Finishing out the days with a good brewery. Literally any brewery, because every brewery is unique and made to be different from the other.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When we were in the process of opening our old gym was in the process of closing, but the athletes had no where to go. So we offered them a new place but the same location. So we really want to thank the people that helped us start and the people who stuck with us through the transition!
