We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Cabral and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, what do you attribute your success to?
As a non-profit the goal behind them is usually trying to fulfil a need. MASK (Mothers Awareness on School-age Kids) is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization created in 2007 to consistently educate families on rapidly-changing issues. The MASK mission is to engage and educate parents, children and the community about the issues facing youth and to empower children to make safe, healthy choices. Today, suicide rates are at an all-time high and social media is influencing our children’s self-esteem in many ways. MASK programs teach children and their families how to handle the ever-changing landscape that our children are living in.
MASK helps children learn invaluable life skills for how to cope with a number of issues including responding to peer pressure, dealing with trauma and technology-related challenges. In today’s viral and social media world, coping skills are more necessary than ever. MASK has served the community for over a decade, with the goal of strengthening parent-child bonds and empowering children to make decisions from a place of knowledge and confidence which will prepare them to thrive.
All families want to help prepare their children, yet finding all of the information, tools and resources can be cumbersome. MASK does the heavy lifting, and provides the platforms, and resources for families and communities.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started MASK (Mothers Awareness on School-age Kids) is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization back in 2007, due to a conversation I had with my son. As a parent I wanted to always be on the forefront of issues and challenges that my children might face. Communication was key for me to be able to talk and educate my children on the tough and uncomfortable topics because at the end of the day, I want my children to learn from me not their friends or learn the incorrect information.
The MASK mission is to engage and educate parents, children and the community about the issues facing youth and to empower children to make safe, healthy choices.
MASK strives to help children learn invaluable life skills for how to cope with a number of issues. In today’s viral and social media world, coping skills are more necessary than ever. MASK gives students tools for how to handle many issues, including responding to peer pressure, technology-related challenges, refusal skills, emotional regulation, frustration tolerance, self-esteem and setting boundaries.
MASK teaches one student invaluable life skills to handle peer pressure, technology related challenges.
Today, suicide rates are at an all-time high and social media is influencing our children’s self-esteem in many ways. MASK programs teach children and their families how to handle the ever-changing landscape that our children are living in.
MASK addresses the multi-faceted issues our children are facing, and its programs give our community the tools it needs to communicate with students about real-life pressures, and provide them with appropriate coping mechanisms. MASK programs have served children, their families, and the community for over a decade, with the goal of building healthy children, strengthening parent-child bonds and improving school climate. MASK positively impacts the lives of thousands of children and their families and empowers every child to thrive in the 21st century.
MASK fulfills its mission by engaging, educating and empowering families through the MASK E3 Institute, MASK The Magazine, an informative website, the MASKMatters App, and through MASK Live Segments streamed through youtube.
Non profit work is not an easy path, it requires a lot of work, dedication and commitment to your overall mission.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
