We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Arias and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristen, why did you pursue a creative career?
I began having an interest in the entertainment industry from a very young age. I originally fell in love with the animation field and had dreams of working for Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California, but as I grew older I transitioned away from animation as my passion for film editing, producing, and media began to grow immensely. I firmly believe I’ve always had a natural talent for creativity when it comes to visual storytelling and I love to create films and edit in a way that tells these stories for audiences. I graduated with a B.A. in Digital Media Production with a minor in Film Studies and was a 5-Year Division 1 softball student-athlete. Currently I work for Momentum, which is a YouTube baseball channel and I am absolutely living the dream life. I love having the ability to edit and tell stories surrounding a game that I grew up in, and with that providing entertainment for people of all ages!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently am one of the lead editors and videographers for Momentum, a YouTube baseball channel with over 650,000 subscribers. While I was continuing my education and softball career at Drake University, I started pursuing freelance virtual edits for the company and upon graduation I took a full-time job offer and made the move to Arizona! Aside from editing I have also had the opportunity to create my own content which has allowed my social media following to grow since joining Momentum! I absolutely love my job and the connections I have made over the past year. Not only have I met and become friends with other baseball content creators, but I’ve had the pleasure of working with former and pro MLB players such as Fernando Tatis, Evan Carter, and Ryan Klesko. I’ve also had opportunities to travel, filming in Japan and even the 2023 World Series! Although many rewards have sparked out of my job, it certainly took a lot of hard work and determination to make it to where I am today. Prior to editing for the YouTube landscape, I primarily invested time in projects ranging from short films to documentaries, which caters to varying genres and audiences that social media tends to differ from. One of the most challenging parts of being an editor is having to adjust to trends in media and what the audience is looking for, but that is also the beauty of my job in that I get the creative power to tell the story as I envision for our channel. I take great pride in my edits and I always strive to be the best that I can be!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have only lived in Arizona for a year, but if I had family and friends in town I would definitely suggest going to any sporting events! Being a baseball fan, I love when Spring Training is around from February-March! It’s definitely a must, as well as attending a Diamondbacks game! I would also suggest going to Old Town Scottsdale for some fun shopping, such as with the Old Town Farmer’s Market. The area has many fun and local eateries/shops as well! I would also suggest taking a visit to the Phoenix Zoo or perhaps taking a hike at Camelback Ranch, of course on a cooler day! I live very close to Scottsdale Quarter and Kierland Commons which has a lot of great places to eat such as Etta, Grimaldi’s, and more! Downtown Phoenix is also very fun!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A great majority of my success and accomplishments wouldn’t have been possible without the love and support of my parents. They both believed and pushed me to achieve my dreams and knew what I was capable of since I was a little girl. Thank you for everything!
