We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Click and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, how does your business help the community?
At Let’s Go Compost, our mission is to make composting more accessible and promote sustainable waste management practices in communities. We believe that composting plays a crucial role in creating a healthier environment and reducing the negative impact of waste on our planet.

Environmental stewardship and composting hold the key to transforming our world into a haven of sustainability and vitality. Every action we take, every initiative we undertake, is driven by a deep-rooted desire to heal our planet and protect its resources.

At the core of our work lies a relentless dedication to accessibility and education. We recognize that knowledge is the seed from which change sprouts (pun intended). That is why we provide free worm compost bins and STEAM educational resources to empower individuals of all ages to embrace composting and make informed choices about their waste. I envision a future where every person understands the profound impact of their waste and actively participates in its transformation into a force for good.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At Let’s Go Compost, we are able to show others how to reduce their waste through reuse and repurpose. Our waste reduction effort is two-fold. First, we divert bulk ingredient 5-gallon buckets from the landfill. These buckets are used by mass ingredient manufacturers to name-brand grocery store bakeries, primarily for icing. While these buckets are not suitable for recycling, as they often have food waste remnants on them, and the manufacturers do not offer refill options, we are able to collect them and upcycle them into free worm compost bins.

The 5-gallon buckets are truly versatile, well beyond turning them into indoor worm composting bins. We hope our upcycling practices show others how to challenge the items they are throwing away each day and see how they can repurpose them into a new product and give it new life. In a world swimming in plastic, every bucket saved from an Arizona landfill makes a huge impact.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in Scottsdale has to be the greenbelt. When the weather is nice, I’m often walking my dog, Mr. P, on it for about an hour at sunrise or sunset and listening to a podcast. I love meeting my neighbors, seeing the same group of people on it every day, and watching the native animals and wildflowers bloom on it. In a city that is constantly growing and changing, I love that the greenbelt is becoming a staple to so many people.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Let’s Go Compost is run entirely by volunteers. Our educational outreach coordinator MacKenzie Ramirez has been a critical piece of the puzzle to grow our STEAM program for elementary students and beyond. Her work and research allows us to reach people of all ages and create a wave of impact across Arizona.
