We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Strittmatter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leah, how does your business help the community?
Work Athletics Basketball Facility was created to help players embrace the power of hard work, teamwork & work ethic through the game of basketball! Our motive is Colossians 3:23 which thrives our program, we want players to “work heartily” in all they do. We believe that when we instill this in our players on the court, it will contribute to their life off the court. We want to be a safe, consistent, discipled, positive and competitive environment for our families.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I want to leave a positive impact on those around me. Being a role model is something I take very seriously and want to do a good job at. Those little eyes are watching me on and off the court. Coaching is a different perspective of basketball that I fell in love with all over again, my heart is in it.
One of my biggest challenges growing up was confidence in my ability that I spent countless hours working on. I never had a coach fully understand me as a player. I needed a coach that was going to believe in me and help me believe in myself. There is a way to be a discipled coach that still respects their players, I want to be that coach!
I have learned that I can make an impact on so many players lives not just as a basketball coach but as a role model. I want to make sure I impact that players life with a positive way. Representing Christ in all that I do is important to me in my life, coaching is a way I feel God is using me to do this!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite things to do in the valley is go hiking, we live in a beautiful state! We have great sports venues, places to eat and so many fun places to go with the family.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are three contributors to my success, my faith in God, my family & friends, and my love for the game of basketball!
God has had full control over my business. Starting a business at age 21 there is no way I could have done this without God by my side every step of the way. I wanted to make sure this was to glorify Him and that I started this venture on a firm foundation of Christ. God is good all the time and continues to bless my basketball program!
My family has always been my biggest support system. I would have never had enough confidence or knowledge to do this without my family pushing me and reminding me I can capable of helping and changing so many lives through my business. I am truly blessed with an amazing family that loves and supports me. And I can’t forget all the friends that gave me opportunities and advice to help me pursue my dream too along the way.
My love of the game of basketball started at the young age of five years old. It consumed my life ever since. I have always loved the process of improving and perfecting my craft. Growing up I was a gym rat, had a basketball in my hands constantly and never missed a day to practice. I have been a Suns fan ever since my first Suns game in 2005 when I watched Nash lead the Suns through his humbleness, selflessness and teamwork on the court.
