We had the good fortune of connecting with Leona Berlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leona, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
It’s the attitude that I picked up. My attitude towards my path as an artist is, that everything happens for the greater good. If something doesn’t work out right away, I don’t allow it to stop me. It just means that something even better is meant to be or that I need to lear more about the area. And even though I might not like it sometimes, it keeps me moving and growing. It can be tiring at times, but it’s deeply rewarding.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I had a pivotal moment when I was 18. I realized that nothing was nearly as exciting to me as music, and with that, I felt a strong calling to become an artist. From that moment on I went from having no clue about the music world to a lot of experience and expertise. Obviously it wasn’t always easy and still isn’t, because at every level there are challenges no matter how far you go. Furthermore, the biggest challenges are not external but internal and require a change in mindset, which is basically self-development. The number one thing that helpes me to overcome these challenges is my sense of direction, the feeling that what I do is my mission in this life. If I stopped, I would feel like I was withdrawing my gift from the world, which is not an option.
Over time I have learned that I want to share not only the music itself with the world, but also the insights of this journey, which is very much a self-discovery journey. With my message I want to inspire people who may be too afraid to follow their calling or feel stuck or overwhelmed.
My music is for those who just enjoy listening to good music, but also and especially for those who can read between the lines.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Berlin is a city with so many faces! The districts are very distinct from one another and in every area there are different vibes. The defining characteristic of the city to me is the vibrancy, the multiculturalism and the room for music and art. It’s, in my opinion, the most international city of Germany and the only place I could imagine to live at the moment. Here are my top 3 must-see recommendations for eveybody visiting Berlin for the first time:
– “The Swag”, a legendary weekly hip hop session that attractes even stars like Erykah Badu
– “Mauerpark”, which is a famous park alongside the former Berlin wall
– “Secret Garden”, a vegan sushi place in Friedrichshain
My biggest recommendation though is to spend some in this city, and come here during summer! The parks and the nightlife in summer are a unique experience!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is so true! Without all the people in my life I would never have been able to get this far. First of all there are my parents who always trusted me with my choices. Then there was school -I was very lucky to attend one that had a strong emphasis on music and art where I could experiment, discover and develop a lot of my creativity. In my teens and early twenties I had several mentors who introduced me to new music worlds and broadened my perspective immensely. The biggest impact has been working with Magro, an amazing artist, drummer and producer who I’ve been working with for over 10 years now. In working together that closely over such a long period of time lies an incredible power, because not only are there two pairs of ears listening and two sets of ideas flowing into the music, but also through him I was able to see weakspots that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. It’s exciting to work with Magro to this day because we are still evolving alongside each other. “Trippin” is one of his masterpieces – definitely recommend to check him out.

Other: I just released my new single “Who?”. It’s part of my upcoming album, so stay tuned for more ♡ ► https://ffm.to/leonaberlin_who In essence “Who?” transcends being a song; it encapsulates my evolving self-awareness and aspirations. It serves as an anthem to anyone grappling with their complexities while embarking on a quest for self realisation.
