We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexi Petersen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lexi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had wanted tattoos since before I could remember. I booked my first appointment for the morning of my 18th birthday. Unfortunately, my skin wasn’t as big of a fan as I was. I was allergic to inks, I broke out in hives, scabbed, itched, and healed horribly. My mom had used essential oils for everything else in our lives so I thought why not tattoos? She helped me come up with a blend to help with all my ailments and boom, Ink Oil was created! It worked so well in aiding me in healing that we thought others would benefit too so we worked with a pharmacist to ensure our product was safe, created branding, and signed up for a booth at our first tattoo convention.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Whenever I tell someone about Ink Oil I have to take time to explain what we are and how we got here. We started out as a tattoo aftercare company, we’ve expanded to beard oils, bump oils, and my favorite pups oils. We use essential oils in many different areas of our lives and weren’t afraid to create new products and expand in some interesting ways. My favorite saying is covered in tattoos, dog hair, and essential oils. My three favorite things 🙂

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love hosting people in AZ because there is so much to do, eat, and see! We have a tradition called where to Wednesday where we try to eat at a new spot every Wednesday to ensure we are checking out all the great food AZ has to offer. Some of our favorites have been; The Perch, Hava Java, and Society Evo.

We moved here for the baseball, if you can come in the Spring time and catch a game, do it! Sloan park and the Cubbies are our favorite.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to KP, my mom. She was skeptical in the beginning, even cried when I got my first few tattoos. However, she was 100% supportive. She has been along for the ride ever since, helping with fulfillment, creating posts, even getting tattooed to try out the products! It’s been so fun to run a business with my mom and best friend, we get to spend more time together than most mother daughter duos and I’m forever grateful for that.
