Meet Lindsey Karlsrud | Photographer & Special Education Teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Karlsrud and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I decided to start my photography business because I wanted to be able to share my art and capture more of life’s special moments. I am a special education teacher who enjoyed taking pictures of friends and family on the weekends. I have been photographing whoever and whatever I could since I was in junior high school. After taking maternity pictures for a co-worker 4 years ago, I decided I wanted to turn my passion into a career and display my work online for everyone to see. Since then I have photographed so many couples, newborns, and families and I have grown this business more than I ever imagined.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Growing up, I started photographing anyone that would let me take their picture. As I got older, I would photograph friends and family members for fun at various locations in the East Valley. Since I started LMK Photography I have explored so many new locations all over Arizona and have taken full advantage of all this state has to offer. I am a natural and bright light photographer and am always chasing the sunrise or sunset for the best photos.
Teaching has always been my passion and when I am not at a shoot or editing I am teaching students with special needs. I believe my professional skills and passion for my students transfer to photographing families with young children. I strive for candid moments and not necessarily always perfectly posed portraits. My goal is to make every shoot fun and to always make whoever I am photographing as comfortable as possible in front of the camera.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a native Arizonan and absolutely love this state! Spring and Fall are my absolute favorite here! Between spring training, hiking, shopping and fall festivals, there are so many things to do. If you want to stay in the valley my top places to visit would be exploring the Superstition Mountains and grabbing some food and drinks in Downtown Gilbert. For a day or weekend trip, I love driving up north to Sedona or Flagstaff. It always amazes me how different the landscape and weather can be just a few short hours away from Phoenix!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am thankful for my husband, Erick. He encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and start sharing my photos. He has been so supportive every step of the way.
My family also had a big part in instilling my passion for photography.
Lastly, I am so thankful for all the friends and families that have trusted me to capture their special moments. Social media has helped play a part in my business growth and I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without all my friends and past clients sharing and liking my work online.
