We had the good fortune of connecting with Liqiong Huo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liqiong, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to pursue an artistic career because I am passionate about expressing meaningful ideas, creating new experiences, and exploring the unknown in creative ways. I am completely fascinated by the transformative character of the creative process that links the physical, mental, and spiritual levels of existence. For me, art is a meditative space where I am able to connect more deeply with my true self, a playground where I can return to my childlike being and play with joy, and an exciting adventure that leads to discovering new perspectives and awareness.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a multidisciplinary artist that has a wide range of interests, including spirituality, Carl Jung’s psychological study of the unconscious mind, and the philosophy of Taoism. My artistic practice spans various disciplines from paintings, to making sculptures and building spatial installations.

My creative process is intuitive and spontaneous. I allow the process to guide me from one move to another; I let the painting reveal itself. I’ve learned to trust my intuition and the flow to create with grace instead of force.

I am drawn to explore the unseen and invisible connections between objects, people, and other life forms. I translate my own narratives and understandings of these connections into the artwork. The search for self, meaning, and spirituality is the major motive and drive behind my work. By following my own passion and being my true self, I hope to inspire other people to follow their own excitements and be who they truly are.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friends were visiting the area, I would bring them to the best restaurants in town, walk around galleries in Sacramento downtown, and enjoy some outdoor activities such as kayaking, hiking, and skiing(in winter) in Lake Tahoe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
One of the most significant influences on my creative journey is Bashar’s teaching of being one’s true self. He has taught me the importance of listening to my own heart and following my passion and excitement. I’d like to mention my college professors, Elizabeth Debs and Jongwan Kwon, who have been my great mentors and continuously offered support and guidance to me. Last but not least, I’d like to express my gratitude to my friends, family, and collectors who have given me unconditional love and support in this creative journey.
