We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorraine Campos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorraine, how do you think about risk?
I’ve been a risk taker in some moments in my life, but I’m also naturally very cautious and I try to think logically before making decisions. Starting a business involves a lot of risk, especially in the boutique industry. I absolutely have learned to trust my own instincts and take a leap of faith. In 2021, I was laid off from a career I thought would be stable, and that taught me that nothing in life is secure, but if you are a natural born hustler, you’ll figure out how to make it. Sometimes you have to take risks because life gives you no other options, so my business actually thrived when I had no other safety net.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I had many challenges prior to starting my boutique, and I really paid my dues before I opened for business. I was reselling clothing out of my own closet as a side hustle, really out of necessity. I realized I had a passion for not only the clothing industry but running a business. I sacrificed to save start up money and I launched Third Rodeo right before the pandemic, so it was a scary time to own a business. That was a huge challenge that could have discouraged me, but I knew if I didn’t seize the moment and opportunity, I’d never know what might have been. If you know anything about rodeo, it involves risk and heartbreak, but there’s a reason champions continue on. That’s where the name Third Rodeo came from, & it’s the spirit of my brand. To do anything with love requires great risk. Besides providing my customers with amazing clothing & jewelry, I hope that’s a message they can walk away with, from my story.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I started my business, I didn’t really have a mentor, but my Mom was very encouraging from the start. I also really want to thank my Dad. He’s helped me set up at every pop up shop & event, helped me build displays, and takes every photo for my website and social media. He’s taught me the value of hard work through his own example and has always believed in me.
