We had the good fortune of connecting with Maddison Koper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maddison, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
“Fake it til’ you make it.” It’s terrible advice. I understand the premise behind it but in my experience the most powerful tool that can, and will, make you successful is authenticity. People who are authentic are more trustworthy. From the start you know who you are dealing with, you know they are being honest, you know they are confident. Conformity keeps people average. Authenticity makes you unique.

What should our readers know about your business?
Life Coach Lawyer is a non-traditional law firm and coaching business all about creating balanced solutions.

My name is Maddison Koper. I am a lawyer, a fitness instructor, a spiritual, healthy, proactive person determined to do things MY way…which usually involves deep breathes and the color pink.

In my legal practice, I have carved out a niche to represent content creators and influencers in their business formation, contracts, negotiations, and intellectual property brand protection. In addition, I work with small businesses with big dreams to help them legally build their brands. I always say, “I am not a normal lawyer, I am a cool lawyer.” I am approachable and relatable to my clients, I want to inform the masses on the laws that affect them and explain things in a simplified way so people can be educated and informed as they start and grow their businesses. Make sure to follow me on instagram and tik tok to see how I make learning about the law trendy and FUN. I promise you will want to see this. Trust me, I’m a lawyer. 🙂

In addition to my legal work, I keep everything in balance by Coaching. I coach and counsel other lawyers on well-being in the practice of law. Lawyers are a notoriously unhappy, burnt-out group of professionals. As a seasoned wellness coach and lawyer, I am uniquely positioned to work with attorney’s to help them find the balance they are seeking in their lives. I work with lawyers on a range of topics from confidence coaching, training positive thinking, mindfulness and stress reduction, time management, career alignment and general physical and mental health.

Owning my own law firm, amongst my other businesses has been challenging but mostly really fun. Other entrepreneurs can relate but I often remind myself that I am doing this because I GET to, not because I HAVE to.

I am truly proud of myself when I explain to people what I have the privilege of doing for work. The benefits of working from anywhere in the world, making my own schedule and working with my clients in the ways that I see fit, far outweighs (talking about balance again) the struggles of wearing so many hats operating a business on my own. I know other small business owners can relate to this. I express gratitude as frequently as possible for the benefits and flexibility of being my own boss. No matter how long my to-do list is, I always remind myself that it is MY list and I am fulfilling my own desires and making my own dreams come true.

I am here to serve, to advise and to counsel. If something in your life or in your business is feeling out of balance, now you know who to call.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am big fan of adventures, activities and delicious cheap eats.

It’s a little outside the city but I always recommend the Out of Africa wildlife park about 75 minutes north of Phoenix.

I cherish our incredible desert views in Arizona so I always make sure to hit one of our signature hikes around town. Tom’s thumb, Piestewa Peak or Pinnacle Peak depending on how much we want to sweat.

Everyone MUST visit Dessert in the Desert in North Scottsdale to try a “fish cone” – it’s this wild, purple Asian ice cream and it truly is one of the best desserts I’ve ever had.

I’m not from the West Coast so I still get really excited by a classic In-and-Out double double.

If we are trying to have a dressed up, fancy night out I recommend trying any of the restaurants at the resorts. People forget that they don’t have to stay there to have dinner there but you DO need to make a reservation because they are always bustling.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dr. Eric Selbin, Professor of Political Science at Southwestern University

Dr. Selbin recognized and identified a characteristic in me that made me feel bright, and intelligent in my early days of college. He recognized that I think out loud. I am a talker, and my entire train of thought is oral. My ideas flow best outloud and that realization helped me embrace asking questions, having conversations and verbalizing my internal dialogue.
