We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Stevenson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My style of photography is warm & nostalgic with a focus on real, documentary style shots. I struggled for a while trying to find a style that aligned with me and what I wanted my brand to be, but eventually I finally found a look I was really proud of. I’ve always loved polaroids and how film and photos looked during the 50s-90s; soft, grainy and warm, and was always fascinated by it. I didn’t pick up photography at a young age, while only admiring it. It fell into my lap at the start of the pandemic as a hobby and quickly became a huge part of my life. It did however take time and practice to get to a point where I was comfortable sharing my work for people to see. Even then, there was a lot of mental challenges I had to go through, such as imposter syndrome and being rejected. I think it just took time and practice, just like anything else. I gave up a lot to do this, but it was always worth it in the end. I still go through those periods, but I’m confident in my work and my passion for it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t go out to eat as often as I used to, but some of my favorite places include, Nook, The Monica, Uptown Burger and Trident. Mt Lemmon is always a great place to go to escape the heat during the summer, and has some of the prettiest views. Saguaro National park (East or West) is an absolute must when visiting, especially around sunset. A personal favorite place of mine is Sonoita, I love the rolling hills and tall grass, it feels like you’re not in Arizona.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people in my life have contributed to the start and growth of my business! My family and boyfriend were some of the first people to support me and encouraged me to follow my goals. Victoria Jones mentored me in the beginning of my photography journey and for that I will forever be grateful.
