We had the good fortune of connecting with Mallory Phelps and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mallory, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
First and foremost, in this season of life, I’m a mom. Starting my own business has always been a goal of mine from a very young age, but becoming a mom pushed me to finally make the leap and start my own business. I wanted to have freedom and flexibility in my schedule, so that I could still show up for my kids, and follow my passion.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
From a young age I dreamed of becoming a neurosurgeon. While I abandoned that dream during college, my love of the brain and fascination in understanding human behavior and emotions never wavered, which is why I ended up becoming a therapist. When I became a mom and after my own difficult experience with postpartum, I quickly understood that my calling was supporting other moms through their transition into motherhood. After working as a perinatal therapist for two years, I recognized that many times moms need a higher level of support that a weekly therapy appointment or monthly medication management, and decided to create Bloom for Moms.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love grabbing sushi at Hillstone or Uchi, grabbing a coffee at Coffee Builders downtown or Cartel coffee and get brunch at Luci’s at the Orchard while the kids play in the splash pad. And a day wouldn’t be complete without a juice or a smoothie from Kaleidoscope.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many people have had such a significant impact on my life. But my dad was my earliest example of an entrepreneur. As an attorney that operated independently, I watched his incredible work ethic and witnessed all of the sacrifices that it took to be successful, but I also saw him make his own schedule and had the wonderful privilege of having him go on all of my school field trips and never miss a single swim practice or violin lesson.
