Meet Marc Nassos | Real Estate Developer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marc Nassos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marc, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I used to prioritize work over almost everything. I had a fearful obligation to my employer and that I needed them more than they needed me, and it almost felt like a ball & chain. When I was younger, this didn’t matter that much, but after I was married and started to have a family, it all changed. I was missing the best years of my family life. I missed seeing my kids in the morning and reading them a book before putting them to bed at night. I had to leave my family behind when there was a serious illness because I was threatened by my boss. It pushed me past the point of regret until I couldn’t take it any more. I broke free from being controlled and treated unfairly by moving on; and it felt like I got off the island. I realized what the most important things were to spend the remaining minutes I have left in my life and I wasn’t going to spend those minutes doing anything other than what I was purposed for and what had meaning to me. Now, I prioritize God and my family first, and work second. I certainly put in the extended hours and stress myself to put 110% effort into anything I do, but I schedule work around my real priorities. I block time for productivity and time for family, and I stick to it. I feel that once I started to enjoy what I did every day instead of doing it because I felt like I had to, I performed at a higher level and with more competence. I stopped caring about what people thought and just started being me. And being me has made life a lot better and more fulfilling.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to do things a little different than everyone else. If most people are following a trend, I tend to go the other way. I don’t believe in bringing craziness to the craft, but something just a little bit different that makes my product stand-out from the rest. I truly believe that atmospheres create emotion, and emotion can drive our consciousness. I strive to create unique and functional spaces that stimulate the utmost inner happiness and joy. I am passionate about living through the transition of real estate into a destination where happiness can be found. These spaces are where people can commune to create long lasting memories. The only way I can accomplish this at the highest level is to put the right team together and then challenge them to also be different than the rest. The collective effort of talent produces the art and creativity. Oh, and I don’t like “yes” people. If you just say yes, then I likely don’t need you and could do it myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love to host guests in from out of town and try to tailor each experience to their interests. If you’re outdoorsy, we hike up Camelback mountain or just go for a neighborhood beach cruiser ride where we might run into JT’s or OHSO for a couple of drinks. If you’re a sportsman, we hit one of Arizona’s awesome golf courses (where I lose a half dozen balls) or we head to a Diamondbacks or Cardinals game. I’m a lake person and most people haven’t experienced an Arizona lake where you can surf or wakeboard next to a beautifully laminated rock wall, so thats an idea I always throw out there. Everyone who visits wants to spend some time poolside, so whether its my home, the Phoenician, or the Montelucia, we manage to squeeze that in. I consider myself a foodie, so we would definitely eat! With that said, I like to try new places and Phoenix has so many to offer, especially with the growing markets around the valley, so the rotation would vary. Some of my go-to’s are Steak 44, Past Brioni, The Parlor, and a little place called Rosa’s Mexican.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was walking through a competitors project (also a friend) one morning just having an impromptu conversation with him when all of a sudden this guy walked in full of energy and enthusiasm, more so that I had seen ever. We talked for a bit and then he walked out. I asked the other gentlemen I was with, “Who the heck was that and what is he on!?!?!” He laughed and said something like, “life”. I said that I needed some of that. I ran into Mr. Enthusiasm at a new project reveal of mine and he showed up. We talked for a few minutes and then invited me to his house on a Saturday morning, which I thought was weird, but I went anyway. Mr. Enthusiasm introduced me to Darren Hardy and I fell in love with his direct, no-nonsense, business principles. I’ve taken several of his courses and listen to his daily mentoring, which help direct an increased my level of productivity. Then there is Gary Vaynerchuk, another no-nonsense, get it done guy. He has definitely pushed me to not care what other people think (respectfully) and reinforced Darren Hardy’s approach to taking action and being responsible for everything that happens to me. Another friend of mine that I respect a lot introduced me to Chris Dorris, and he gives me a Daily Dose of Mental Toughness. Chris’s approach helps to turn every negative into a positive and changes the way you think about reality. Its powerful. All of this, of course, is behind my ever-growing relationship with Jesus Christ who I rely on for the ultimate guidance.
