Meet Marian Tiloo | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marian Tiloo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marian, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was an opportunity to share my creative side with the world. I’ve always loved photography and my friends actually suggested sharing a photo that I took on social media.. I started doing landscape photography & then asked some friends if they wanted to be my models to build a photography profile. I I took pictures of everything once I bought my first real professional camera because I was so happy. It’s been a long process but I always knew photography was something I loved to do and the compliments I receive about my work makes me realize that this is truly something I love.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I am most proud of with my photography is that every session is unique. When I meet with clients or friends and family, I want them to be natural and just enjoy the time we have together. I love capturing the true moments of them in their natural element. I think this is extremely important and how you get the best photos. It shows someone’s true personality and makes it so much more fun for me when I give them the freedom to do what they want and they allow me the freedom to do what I think works best. Photography definitely was not easy. It is not just about buying a camera and snapping photos. You have to make sure you learn camera settings, angles, lighting, and take lots of practice shots beforehand. There are different photo editing programs, considering turnaround times, and really just providing the person on the other end of the camera a vision that they saw and making it come to life. Another important factor is always making sure you have backups, like batteries, memory cards and a backup plan in case something does not go the way you wanted it to. Photography is fun and challenging because you only get a one-hour shoot to do what you can to the best of your abilities. Things are not always smooth but with time, it definitely gets better. I have not found exactly which type of photography I want to focus on yet, so for now I am just doing anything I can to make my clients happy and find what I am truly good at. It has been a pleasure to see how much growth, individually, that I have had since my first shoot.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a week long trip with my bestie, I would definitely drive up to Sedona, Prescott, or Flagstaff. Especially this time of year, it may be a little cold up North, but that’s the beauty of having snow and colder temps just.2 hours away. Arizona is full of scenic views and you cannot forget about the Grand Canyon, either. If we were to stay local, I would definitely recommend Scottsdale area. There are lots of shops, great food and sights to see all around. With my bestie, I would definitely have fun anywhere we go, as long as we are together. Who knows, maybe even a road trip would be a great idea!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my friends and family, who have always supported my decision to start photography. Without them, I would not be where I am today. From models, scheduling their own individual and family sessions, referrals, sharing my social media pages, comments, likes, and just providing feedback on my work, I am truly, truly grateful for the opportunities that I have had because of them. Thank you to each and every person who has been behind me throughout this process and I love you forever!
